Roberto Martinez discussion

On the Everton news feed theres a very good tactical insight showing that the Niasse Lennon sub had nothing to do with the outcome of the tactics at all.

Lennon made one tackle in the 2nd half when he was pushed to a support striker role (like for like change with Niasse)....the stats show that after the lukaku miss the players crumbled.

Think that pretty much supports tactically what i could see with my own eyes rather than bashing Martinez for a substitution its the backbone of the players...

For that you need a captain to step up.

Utter tosh

It had nothing to do with tackle ratio; it was the balance of the team.and lennon was dropping back giving the midfield more support. He went from a 4-4-1 of sorts to a 4-3-2 and we became totally over run in midfield.

What ever happens against Chelski it will be papering over cracks that keep appearing. He needs to stop talking bollards in press conferences which antagonises more than it does to answer questions.

Half the team were still attacking when they scored their goals still. Stats or no stats, it was poor management yet again when we should have had 10 men behind the ball.

Not even arsed about who came on for who, 15 minutes left and man down you don't keep attacking against a team that is a he'll of a lot better than you

I can't figure out if this is bad, like really bad, or if the pretty colours are convincing me the bad runs weren't as bad as I thought(because of things like cup wins, or our away form this season), but I spent a little time popping our results under Martinez into this sheet

So this argument that he's had to get us scoring goals before looking at defending over the past three seasons all falls flat on its face if we don't score 23 goals in the last 10 league games.

Wonder what the next excuse will be.

It was a terrible decision borne out by the one statistic that matters, the result

Overrun in midfield?
Having an extra man will do that by default.
And the WH goals came from crosses, not counters through our midfield.
Sheesh.

All that illustrates is that there's an argument for Lennon to be subbed. It was the fact he brought Niasse on for him rather than a defensive player that was the major problem.

It's Martinez; time and time and time again he cannot shut up shop with the clock running down and us in a lead.

It's not a 'noble' trait; it's not 'aww, isn't he good, always trying to attack'. It's 'He's a poor manager because he cannot MANAGE games and ultimately - criminally - loses games from winning positions'.

He's never going to change - we've had 2 seasons of this now - so he simply has to be sacked and replaced by someone who can manage games and knows how to defend.

Only one set of stats worth any note at all mate.....called the PREM TABLE. It's really all you need to see.

I thought I'd feel better about it today. I don't, I feel somehow worse.....but I think our friends across the park may have contributed somewhat to that like...

And I desperately want to get 'up' for the CHEL game in the same way some seem 'up & confident abarrr it on the thread. Yet I have the most awful feeling about it, that he's gonna do something SO tactically inept that it creates further head in hands moments.

Onward though eh, hope must prevail....all that bollocks.

*gonna be a long week this.

Like starting Kone on the left?

Edit. Starting him at all?

Zat, you know how much I have defended RM but he got that sub horribly wrong.

Stats don't tell the story in this instance.

Lennon was causing W.Ham havoc on the counter which meant they had to leave a man back. He was also pressing Song which meant he had to drop deeper and couldn't start moving forward, which in turn meant Payet was dropping back to pretty much the half way line to get on the ball.

As soon as Lennon goes off we drop off the pace completely (and I don't blame Niasse for that as he's obviously not the right player for that situation), and W.Ham's better players pick up space in forward areas.

However, that being said, I think that change merely facilitated the opportunity for our capitulation. The manager is at fault for that but, like you, I think the players have to be blamed as well. That last 15 minutes, especially from Jagielka and Mori (as good as he has been) was amateur - following on from quite frankly an amateur change from the manager.

I'm not turning on RM but I do now feel that he is going to be under considerable pressure in the summer if he can't turn this around and rightly so.

He contributed massively to our downfall yesterday after, for 75 minutes, showing all of his qualities as a manager, and that's the biggest shame.
