On the Everton news feed theres a very good tactical insight showing that the Niasse Lennon sub had nothing to do with the outcome of the tactics at all.
Lennon made one tackle in the 2nd half when he was pushed to a support striker role (like for like change with Niasse)....the stats show that after the lukaku miss the players crumbled.
Think that pretty much supports tactically what i could see with my own eyes rather than bashing Martinez for a substitution its the backbone of the players...
For that you need a captain to step up.
Zat, you know how much I have defended RM but he got that sub horribly wrong.
Stats don't tell the story in this instance.
Lennon was causing W.Ham havoc on the counter which meant they had to leave a man back. He was also pressing Song which meant he had to drop deeper and couldn't start moving forward, which in turn meant Payet was dropping back to pretty much the half way line to get on the ball.
As soon as Lennon goes off we drop off the pace completely (and I don't blame Niasse for that as he's obviously not the right player for that situation), and W.Ham's better players pick up space in forward areas.
However, that being said, I think that change merely facilitated the opportunity for our capitulation. The manager is at fault for that but, like you, I think the players have to be blamed as well. That last 15 minutes, especially from Jagielka and Mori (as good as he has been) was amateur - following on from quite frankly an amateur change from the manager.
I'm not turning on RM but I do now feel that he is going to be under considerable pressure in the summer if he can't turn this around and rightly so.
He contributed massively to our downfall yesterday after, for 75 minutes, showing all of his qualities as a manager, and that's the biggest shame.
