Roberto Martinez discussion

Who else would you have brought on?

Baines who is injured
barry who was unwell

or....?

If Niasse had come on and had a good game noone would have said a peep.

note how many forwards utd and arsenal had on after getting red cards at the weekend.

See, difference there mate is that we were 2-0 up and should have been trying to see the game out - they were chasing something, so went reckless.

Also, who else would I have brought on? Short of putting Howard on up front, quite literally any of the five other remaining subs available. Baines isn't injured enough and Barry wasn't unwell enough to not be on the bench, so that's not an issue - it was 20 minutes of the game left, not 60.

Barry would've surely been ok for 15 mins or why was he on the bench? He could've even brought Deulofeu on, like for like seeing as we were doing so well.

what can be done to get rid of this clown now? i cant take another weekend and monday morning in work like this. and you just know something similar is going to happen again at least once this season.

Arsenal were chasing the game and had to go gung ho with 10 men.

We were 2-0 up and needing to see the game out.

He brought on Barry anyway, so yes, if Lennon was in desperate need to being replaced, he should have thought in a pragmatic manner and brought on Barry to provide additional defensive cover in the midfield, not chucked a striker on.

This is the biggest problem, there is no learning from mistakes. Well maybe there is, but there is no action to stop the same mistakes happening again.

Teams know they can just defend 10 yards up the pitch and push our fullbacks back and allow us to play it around the back doing nothing at all. Teams know we struggle with crosses and early balls into the box because we don't recover properly when losing the ball. Teams know we get knackered after 75 minutes.

Everything that was shown as concerning during preseason last season just doesn't seem to have been addressed.
Feels like a broken record but how many headers have we conceded this season? It is almost like Martinez looked at set pieces, had a crack at fixing them and then completely forgot about crossing as well.

I personally believe that roberto has ridden the recent wave to gloss over the season. Beating villa and newcastle either side of a poor stoke on the day (Still above us though...) has made him think he was just not getting the rub of the green, and we had turned the illustrious corner, then we played a team not going down/ having a poor game. then the reality hits home just how bad we are.

I keep saying it, take Martinez's FA cup away, would he still be getting support from some areas?

i dont want him to go...however, can we get consensus that end of the season would be best time to re-evaluate?

there isnt a threat of relegation and we would be able to properly consider the candidates available

Sigh......

If we had won the game on saturday then Martinez would have been rightly praised for his tactics from all corners. The fact he didn't go defensive, didn't react to the fact west ham were looking to cross it in at every oppertunity (FFS carroll came on at half time, all he can do is head the ball) and even after conceding we still din't look to see the game out means Martinez is at fault for the result. If we had 10 men behind the ball for those 15 minutes and made it hard to even get the spoace to cross then i have no doubt we would have won the game.

Except we didn't, we just carried on attacking with one less player on the pitch, incredibly bad tactics that a manager in league one wouldn't even choose to make when the team is MASSIVELY underperforming and desperate for points to save any sort of season.

How would Deulofeu have stopped the crosses into the box?
The same indirect way Lennon did, by putting pressure on further up the pitch. We were by far the better team before Lennon went off. I understand he was exhausted but if he brings Geri on and we keep playing the same way, we don't allow them to get on the front foot and start sending crosses in. The full backs should stop the crosses yes but don't make out the Niasse sub wasn't a massive error.

Genuine question here mate, why don't you want him to go?

I think the end of the season would be the time to bin him.
It would give us time also to look for the right replacement

Martinez quotes today (from the Independent

“With the seven defeats we can analyse every single one and, apart from Manchester United, in every one we performed in an incredible manner and deserved a lot more,” said Martinez.
“Fortunately, I have got seven years of experience in this league and I know what it takes,” said Martinez when asked if he felt any added pressure.

God save us from this deluded, arrogant fraud.

Really don't see that in the Swansea WBA or Leicester games. Conceding 4 v Stoke is not incredible regardless of what you do at the other end. The warning signs were there first day of the season v Watford.

Taking anyone on in the 89th minute is utter lunacy unless:

1. You're cruising and trying to run down the clock
2. Injury

Throwing someone on for the last minute when the opposition has come back to level and is in the ascendancy, knowing that they will disrupt the organisation of the team that's trying to defend, and not be up to the speed of play is almost as idiotic as his first sub.
