Roberto Martinez discussion

hardly a lot worse. maybe slightly but theyre def the 2 worst managers in the league.

This is it, look at the teams below us. Allardyce and Garde have utterly rank squads. Guidelines has picked a poor Swansea squad up and got them out of trouble, Flores is doing brilliant keeping Watford in the division, the much derided Howe will do the same despite missing his best players nearly all season. Then you have Roberto with his 30 mill striker, internationals in every position, some of the top young players in Europe. Then above him Pulis with a terrible WBA side. I'd put Martinez in the bottom three worst managers in the league this season with McClaren and Van Gaal possibly.

Totally agree.

Even the idea that we'd improved is just a total fallacy, I pointed out at the time that teams seems to be able to just score as many as they need to against us. The fact we 'only' conceded 1 to West Brom and 2 to Swansea was simply because that's all they needed. As soon as a decent side was tasked with putting 3 past us they were able to do so, just like Chelsea and City did when they needed to. Our supposedly new improved defence has conceded 3 in a quarter of our games against top flight opposition since the turn of the year. The problems never went away, we simply played a run of games against teams who either aren't good enough to take advantage of it (Villa, Newcastle, Bournemouth), or didn't need to (West Brom, Swansea). Anyone who watched that Villa game last week must be aware that we could easily have conceded more than one in that, and if they'd taken one of their chances at 3-1 i really wouldn't have been confident of seeing it out. That's against the worst team i have ever seen in the premier league. But people try to tell me Martinez has raised expectations.

I've advocated giving him to the end of the season but saturday was the final straw for me. I know it won't happen, but i want him gone now. Get a caretaker in to try to get the fans back on side and proud of their team again, and start talking to some big names who might just be able to salvage the Everton careers of the finest talents we've had in a generation.

Spot on. And it was his 'inspired' substitution at 3 up against Villa that could so easily have resulted in such a sh1te side overhauling our lead.
You couldn't make this fella up.

None mate. He's as safe as houses.

I think Moshiri is weighing up the thoughts of daz4matty, though.

Everton is not a club where ex players openly call for the managers head.

Phil McNulty the BBC's chief football hasn't been exactly glowing in his praise, actually very critical.

Moshiri has been in football long enough to have amassed a circle of trusted confidants. I don't know who they are, I doubt you do. But it would is their view that could be decisive, not mine, yours, ex players or the fan base.

Non of us have a crystal ball.

Yet he has a better record? Amazing how blinkered some people are by what the media tell them.

I'm not saying for one moment I would have Pulis, but then again I wouldn't have had Ranieri either if you had asked me before the start of this season.

It's all pretty fine margins with managers.

Doesn't escape the fact though that Martinez is failing massively.

Nah Pulis would take us back to the dark ages mate.

I can at least take some solace in the fact we attract decent players and stick to our principles of playing good football.

RM yes is messing up big style - or at least has done with that result. We won that and suddenly we're in with a real shout of a great finish to the season. It's the fact that he pretty much opened the door for us to throw it away.

Line someone up before doing what needs to be done

Exactly this.

If he is to go, we need a replacement who will take us forward using the principles (which are sound) that RM has set in place.

This can really only be done in the summer.

My choice - or a realistic one anyway - would still be Flores from Watford.

From the Guardian

http://www.theguardian.com/football...ue-talking-points-leicester-tottenham-arsenal

Kevin Mirallas gave the referee Anthony Taylor no option but to send him off with a tackle that was so late he was almost apologising before he had connected with Aaron Cresswell. Roberto Martínez admitted it was worthy of a yellow card, but proceeded to protest that the Belgian’s first booking, for a dive, was “ridiculous”. Quite apart from the validity of that argument – and this view is that Taylor was completely correct – it left Mirallas with 75 minutes to exercise some common sense. Within 20 minutes, he had shown he could not and duly departed. “It should be harder to be sent off,” Martínez complained, but the fault lay entirely with his winger, who has two senseless sendings-off already this season. Players have a duty to take responsibility for their actions and managers contribute to a culture of scapegoating referees when they blame them instead. And, for such an amiable man, Martínez has done that regularly of late. Sometimes he has had legitimate grievances – John Terry’s 90th-minute equaliser at Stamford Bridge should have been ruled offside – but not on this occasion. It had the feel of a diversionary tactic, making excuses for Everton’s underachievement. More honesty would have been appreciated and would make it easier to take Martínez seriously when he actually has been wronged by the officials. Richard Jolly

As much as RM gets the stick as well, the players can't get off scot-free from this.

They've been abysmal at times this season when we've needed them to have some guts and determination.

If we lose to Chelsea no reason to not put a caretaker in place until then.

Would set out our stall for any new manager that this just isn't good enough

They have but a weak manager means they don't have to give it their all.
It would not have happened under a strong manager like fergie

He's messed it up for 2 seasons now mate. It's not exactly the first time is it? Going to Kiev with a lead and no other game plan than to do the usual, the same away at City in the semi. All of the other games we have thrown away which have and are still being pointed out on numerous occasions.

We can keep going on about could of / should of / would of, but we just aren't producing results. Only a real antagonist would dig their heels in and not accept this as the status quo for us under Martinez.

Who mate??

I'm not having that Ferguson or Sheedy or Unsworth are up to it, ultimately.

Need somebody with experience and there is really nobody available...

and nobody say Mourinho...

or Rafael...

well no, McClaren is doing a lot worse

With McClaren its more the club that's the issue and the culture there, they are used to failure and the players attitudes there don't help

Martinez has a far superior team but the skunks have a better defensive record at home then we do, in fact VILLA has conceded less at home as us. No matter how bad these are they still defend better than us at home
