Roberto Martinez discussion

I've always been concerned by his choice of backroom staff, they seem to be a mixture of his mates who he played with in the 3rd division and ex Blues for sentiment. Maybe I'm doing a few people a dis-service here but it would seem to be a bit coincidental that there people are the best for the job.

Yep fergie use to have the best around him and kept it fresh.

we win on Sat = no change
we lose = different ball game. the options become (IMO) soon or later
hard thinking and decision time then.

In fact all over hard thinking and decision time, whatever day you look at it.

Any quick decision WILL mean a care taker and I would back Unsworth

Well no that's wrong mate.

Had we won on Saturday it would have been a completely different ball game.

My frustration with RM stems from the fact that we had victory in our hands yet that decision of his in the 76th minute completely changed that.

its already been shown that we didn't change shape when niasse came on, criticise the substitution but don't make things up/make assumptions

Yep it wasn't that he switched formations.

But it was square peg in a round hole when there had no need to be. Lennon was fine. He was still pressing and buzzing around.

If Niasse had gone on for Rom I don't think there'd have been an issue. It's the fact he changed our midfield which had been boss in the second half.

He brought another striker on when we had to see the game out for 15 mins with 10 men.

If we'd have had 2 banks of 4 then they wouldn't have had the time and space to keep putting the crosses in, the substitution changed the game and left us under huge pressure. Your patronising tone is wasted on this fanbase mate.

Blaming the match going fans was a beauty as well.

There yourself were you lad?

It wasn't that Niasse played up top though when he came on. We still sat with two banks of four.

What the key to that had been however was the discipline and awareness of Lennon - which is a major benefactor from his 10+ years in the Prem at a side that has consistently challenged for 'best of the rest' and top four.

It was just such a bad sub all-round.

Lennon was playing left mid and getting up and down the flank to give us an out ball with his pace. Barks and McCarthy and Besic were in a compact three shifting across to either side depending on where the ball was, with McCarthy dropping deep to help our defenders out in the area.

TBH, there first goal actually just came from a poor clearance and a good cross and I don't think Lennon would have prevented that. But the second two, he certainly would have helped as he'd have given us a way to relieve the pressure.

It baffles me why RM couldn't have just waited another 5/10 minutes. Then make a change. It's such a shame because up until that point he'd done everything right, and the team were following suit.

Form against top 7 seven sides. I don't know how that works like - guessing it's the top seven as it stands?

I fully agree, a win on saturday would have shown a lot of fans Martinez has the nous to beat a form team with one less player.

Instead his tactical changes and lack of reaction to what was happening AGAIN is what cost us the game. He had fair warning with Carroll coming on, he did nothing to counter that, which shows the difference between a good manager in bilic who could change tactics, and one that should be on borrowed time who thought keep doing the same would be good enough.

Any chance McCarthy?!

Any chance Barkley & Oviedo?! Funes Mori on his way to the beach?

Besic very slow to react, Barry didn't react at all, if you watch the goal again he watches the ball the whole time from Creswell to Carroll's header, he doesn't once look over his shoulder and his reaction after Payet scored is nonexistent.
