Roberto Martinez discussion

Billy Bingham, Gordon Lee, Colin Harvey, Mike Walker, Walter Smith wave hello

We haven't sacked a manager in nearly 15 years though, which given how poor Moyes was towards the end here and how abysmal Martinez currently is... that's quite a remarkable stat.

Top fan you lad...

i already replied on that also, were going to turn them over.

I think we'll beat Liverpool too. That'd be Everton all over that - win when not fancied.

Problem is, I see absolutely no chance of us stringing three wins together after that, or indeed from now until the end of the season. And that's the problem.

The 6 games before that, the goals we scored, the goals we conceded are all redundant mate. They show no improvement, they show no skill or game management, they show no managerial ability.

The losses though? They show EVERYTHING.

I actually wonder about the people behind these posts. Im not even kidding around, worry is a bit strong but what kind of lives do people have to be so negative...its incredible really.

Negative and short term views, put them all in a room together and who knows what would happen?

For 6 games not a peep really, other than most these same posters calling for mirallas (as the stick to beat martinez with again) yet as soon as he gets red carded its then time to deflect from that, deflect from Mori not clearing the headers and deflect from Baines and Barry not being fully fit...

See the number of posts since the game? A game where we lost 3-2 to the team in fifth place when we played with 10 men? But for a miss would have been 3-0 up....

Mori clears two headers and we win, lukaku scores a pen and we win.

But no its the managers fault...

yeah but you need stability, look at how successful and how many trophies we have w...

oh..................................

I do worry about alot of you in here.
In your professional quests have you ever had setbacks? Do you know of people in your office, or your profession, that show great talent but keep making the same mistakes? How old are those lads/lasses? Why are they kept around? Probably because potential talent is worth patience. Patience. You have to either dedicate yourself to the long term or the short term. We've quite clearly gone for the former. Martinez therefore needs that patience to deliver a long term achievement.

You are like a plague of locusts everytime we lose or everytime the man speaks. You constantly barrage him yet you don't know what's going on behind closed doors. You have 90 mins 1 or 2x per week. Were you seeing what's happening at FF, you might appreciate that slowly but surely these players are improving.

It's a huge, huge rebuilding job that he's doing. Top to bottom. It takes longer than what he's had so far.

If we had shown no reason to be optimistic in the last 2 1/2 years then fair enough. That isn't the case though. We play probably the best football in the league when we are on it. It needs to be more consistent, granted. We need better results. Granted. But we are showing signs of progression despite what the doom-mongering of you would like the rest to believe.

So what? So plucky little Wigan and their fans should be delighted they've found their level after 2 relegations? Behave.

Making out you speak for their entire fanbase in your desire to somehow portray their demise as a positive is ridiculous.

They average 8,000 now btw, they used to get 18,000 when they were in the PL.

They used to regularly attract 5,000 away fans in the Premier League.

Their attendances are nearer 9,000 this season, so their own support has held up very well through two relegations.

But enough about Wigan. Let's move on!

So wins, goals scored, goals conceded only matter against sides you deem worthy?
Ok. got it.
Of course not, unfortunately wins count against everyone, which means we don't get many of them.

What i'm saying is that you can isolate a stat all you want, but when you look a bit deeper, you see that it doesn't necessarily mean what you think it does. If you were to put a bet on today you might see a horse that's won 5 on the bounce. If they were all in selling platers at Ffos Las, then the form won't mean an awful lot. Same here, the fact we didn't concede many against poor sides doesn't mean we improved, and if you were watching the games you could see that. If Bournemouth had scored their pen and Villa weren't atrocious finishers, and West Brom had needed to score more than one in order to take all three points then suddenly the stats don't look so good. That's why i prefer the evidence of my own eyes when i'm making my mind up.

Let's go one step further here mate.

Had I said to you before the game we would have a sending off after 25 mins or whatever, against WH, and we lost 3-2, would you have been surprised?

Ok. got it.

If your only beating the bottom 6 teams, Your not staying in this league....
Actually scrap that, What the hell are we even discussing here. Under Moyes we were getting disappointed at finishing top 8 (reached our ceiling) were now contemplating 11th-16th. Christ, I'm no footy expert (think Paul Merson but with more hair) but even I see we are struggling.

How so? The stats back it up...

if ignoring stats, sat:

Lukaku scores we win (bilic said so himself)
Mori clears 2 headers we win

Thats just based on the feel of how the game was going. Dont you think we would have gone on to win the game against the team in 5th place with 10 men if either of the above happened?

It's so clear to see, yet it's ignored completely. Unreal.
