Roberto Martinez discussion

I actually wonder about the people behind these posts. Im not even kidding around, worry is a bit strong but what kind of lives do people have to be so negative...its incredible really.

Negative and short term views, put them all in a room together and who knows what would happen?

For 6 games not a peep really, other than most these same posters calling for mirallas (as the stick to beat martinez with again) yet as soon as he gets red carded its then time to deflect from that, deflect from Mori not clearing the headers and deflect from Baines and Barry not being fully fit...

See the number of posts since the game? A game where we lost 3-2 to the team in fifth place when we played with 10 men? But for a miss would have been 3-0 up....

Mori clears two headers and we win, lukaku scores a pen and we win.

But no its the managers fault...

Personally I worry about the people who blindly support him.

How can you support someone who is not doing the best for the football club that you support? It makes no sense.

A number of people me included have been saying this for a long time. The evidence is in the football, you can see what is wrong, and how it never gets fixed. The system is flawed, and his track record and the stuff he comes out with, hint that it never will.

Of course not, unfortunately wins count against everyone, which means we don't get many of them.

What i'm saying is that you can isolate a stat all you want, but when you look a bit deeper, you see that it doesn't necessarily mean what you think it does. If you were to put a bet on today you might see a horse that's won 5 on the bounce. If they were all in selling platers at Ffos Las, then the form won't mean an awful lot. Same here, the fact we didn't concede many against poor sides doesn't mean we improved, and if you were watching the games you could see that. If Bournemouth had scored their pen and Villa weren't atrocious finishers, and West Brom had needed to score more than one in order to take all three points then suddenly the stats don't look so good. That's why i prefer the evidence of my own eyes when i'm making my mind up.

I just don't buy into that thought-process.

We don't pick the opponents.

Vs Stoke we were magnificent, as an example.

To those advocating Martinez as the right man for the job, what would it take (if indeed, anything...) for you to change your mind? When would enough be enough?

Maybe he won't say we have a problem in public.. because he knows we have a problem and he doesn't have the ability to fix it

See highlighting it and denying it would make me as a opposition manager say to the players, fire a few more crosses in when you attack. It would be counter productive compared to say, admitting it and then actually working on it, which would have the benefit of teams targeting the now improved area.

Top fan you lad...

i already replied on that also, were going to turn them over.

Turn liverpool over?

We have beaten one team this season who were above us in the league, in fact most of the teams we have beaten this season, 7 of them in fact have been in the relegation zone when we beat them. Want proof?

Southampton
Chelsea
Sunderland
Villa
Newcastle
Newcastle
Villa

Look at their league positions when we played them mate and tell me again how we are turning over liverpool?

He needs to bring in a new defensive coach and just let him/her handle the defending aspect

That, combined with some decent signings in the summer thanks to an increased transfer kitty, and I think he'll be fine

So bring someone else into do his job?

That's what most are asking for anyway lol

Bad etiquette here, post the whole article ffs lads/lasses!!!

Everton don't have a weakness defending crosses, claims Roberto Martinez

Michail Antonio (1st R) of West Ham United scores his team's first goal on Saturday
Roberto Martinez has hit back at West Ham United's claims Everton have a weakness defending crosses – but admits his side are still being hampered by lapses at the back.

Hammers striker Michail Antonio, whose goal sparked the Londoners' dramatic 3-2 comeback at Goodison on Saturday, revealed the visitors had pinpointed what they perceived is a vulnerability in the Blues' backline.

West Ham's first two goals originated from balls into the box from out wide , while Dimitri Payet's winner came from a long diagonal into the area headed down by Andy Carroll.

But responding to Antonio's comments, Martinez said: “It's easy to talk, especially when you've won a game.

“When we were 11 against 11, we were the better team and scored the goal to go ahead. Then we had to change things tactically and with 10 men you wouldn't have seen a difference – it was like we had the extra man.

“Then we scored another goal from open play and controlled the game completely and never got done on crosses in that period.

“It's more that we felt we had something to lose. Winning the penalty was a massive high but then missing it was an emotional low, and all of a sudden we gave West Ham momentum that unfortunately they got a big reward from.

Michail Antonio (2nd R) of West Ham United celebrates scoring his team's first goal

“It's not like they bombarded the box. They had two crosses and scored two goals, that's bad defending rather than having a (specific) weakness.

“For the first 78 minutes we were defending extremely well. We scored 14 goals and conceded only two in the previous six games, and in anyone's eyes that a well-balanced team and s good defensive display.”

Everton have now lost seven home Premier League games this season – a figure surpassed only by Crystal Palace and Aston Villa – and Martinez accepts his side are making it too easy for opponents to pilfer Goodison for points.

“We're not seeing opponents beating us easily, it's the opposite,” said the Blues boss.

Everton concede against West Brom

“We've grown as a team, we've shown we can score goals and defend really really well, but then we go into periods where we can't really defend and we get hurt too easy and concede goals that affect scorelines with extreme ease.

“I felt the last six games we'd found a really consistent level of performance in different competitions, keeping very good clean sheets.

“On Saturday, to be so good for 78 minutes, half of which was with 10 men, and then concede three goals in 12 minutes, it makes no sense.”

Aaron Lennon scores to make it 2 - 0 against West Ham

I agree with him. We've shown we can deal with crosses, we've shown we can defend.
It's a mental thing imo. The world caves in when something goes wrong i.e. sending off, missed penalties, missed opportunities.
You can sense the fear in the team and opponents love it.
The buck stops with the manager, but he has shown with Lukaku, Barkley and Deulofeu what he can do with players and their confidence.

But here's the thing.

Heads did not go down when Mirallas was sent off.

If anything, the other ten upped their game and it looked like we had the extra man at times.

Nor did they go down when Rom missed the penalty.

In fact, he himself took it very badly and played like a man possessed thereafter......one run in particular was Drogbaesque as defenders bounced off him as he galloped into the box and it took a fine save from Adrian to keep the ball out the net.

Bobby addresses everything except the reason the game changed so dramatically......the stupid substitution.

And I bet the players on the pitch were as puzzled as the rest of us were when Omar came on for Lennon.

That left the back line exposed on the right and I am sure they had the same sense of inevitability as nearly 40,000 Blues in the ground did when the first goal went in.

That is when heads dropped.

After the manager had shot us in the foot, IMO.

I think people who enjoy watching good football and can see the massive rebuilding job he has on his hands as opposed to those thinking we will end up top 6 with a poor squad and no money have a bit more common sense and patience to be honest.

i also find it laughable reading the posts on here after the game on sat. Pathetic actually.

I do worry about alot of you in here.
In your professional quests have you ever had setbacks? Do you know of people in your office, or your profession, that show great talent but keep making the same mistakes? How old are those lads/lasses? Why are they kept around?

Must be different in your work mate.
In mine if you make mistakes, Keep making the same mistakes, Tell everyone else the mistakes are just bad luck ...Your offski.
Same should apply here, Except Martinez is getting 50x my yearly salary to do it....he is not unquestionable.

To those advocating Martinez as the right man for the job, what would it take (if indeed, anything...) for you to change your mind? When would enough be enough?

When we stop seeing progression.
When I stop seeing players like Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku being turned into genuine quality players.
When I stop enjoying watching the team play when we are on it. Every team has bad games. We have more because of the sheer volume of youth and inexperience we have injected into our side.
When he has clearly finished his recruitment drive - we are still missing a GK, left winger, CB.
When we stop giving youth a chance.
When he has had a proper amount of time to implement the necessary changes - 2 and 1/2 years, when one of them was superb and a true reflection of the long term aim is, isn't enough time.

Ah here no fan would take an FA cup over relegation. That just wouldn't happen.

No Everton fan would no.

But we're talking about Wigan.

I'm not saying they'd have been happy about being relegated, but winning a trophy is a once-in-a-lifetime thing for a lot of clubs like that. They got to see that...

Heads dropped when we missed the pen.
Even the captain, who was on the field, has said so.

But in your work, if this person is showing progression and slowly showing flashes of brilliance, you have to keep the faith and keep them around.
