Roberto Martinez discussion

Look at the EL form. It's been professional from beginning to last.

I've said it for just on a couple of months now: we are expending a lot of form and energy on that tournament when we really needed to dose our effort across that and the PL games.

Learning curve for Martinez, dont forget.

Give the feller some slack to get the balance right for the future and the time to cut out the wasters from this squad.

He's earned the right.
At wigan the cup was his priority but he took them down,he needs to find the right balance and should have learnt from that.
I hope he gets it right mate because I love the club but my doubt is getting stronger than my belief.

Based on league form - W4 - D6 - L4

Europa League - W3 - D2

Carling - L1

In total played 20 - W7 - D8 - L4

Too many draws and obviously a dip in performances. I think it's times like this when you need to show a little faith. Our players and manager are simply having a dip in form, it happens to the best of them.

To me we are going backwards we have been poor all season in the premier league.
The manager is making a lot of mistakes and I am losing faith in him.
We are getting found out by everyone now with our tippy tappy boring footie yet he keeps everything the same when we are desperate for a plan b.
Even last night get eto'o on we needed a goal why leave him on the bench.
I don't know if the manager is suffering a dip in form or what but his decision making is poor.

lol

You lose faith very easily.

So, after 14 games of the season when we've been within striking distance of the top four for most of it and progressed faultlessly through Europe, you now lose faith because we're not doing what we did last season?

This is the very definition of fickle.

Things are likely to get worse at the weekend before we can think of them getting better again. But when they do (and they WILL) there's gonna be some fantastic vaulting material in the last 7/8 pages of this thread to tuck into.

Get a grip FFS. And get behind your manager.

It's not fickle in the slightest, the warning signs have been there since pre-season (which was a mess) and as much as I like Martinez, he has clearly failed to adapt to how teams now set up against us. I'm not saying he should go, I'm not saying he's a s***e manger, I'm saying he has to do much better, along with the players.

I've absolutely no doubt we will improve, but even so, I struggle to see how making a perfectly fair criticism of Martinez requires me to 'get a grip FFS' and 'get behind' him - it is possible to support a team and have legitimate concerns at the same time.

lol etc etc...

Centre of defence needs gutting, IMO. I dont care about how Jagielka hasn't been as bad as the early part of the season; and Distin is just poison on and off the field now. It needs the pair of them gone. They offer next to nothing. We also need a creative player in behind Lukaku who can provide service to him.

He had a bad transfer summer and needs to spend in January to make up lost ground.

He's the same manager who got us a more points in this league than any other though. How can we even consider seriously questioning his ability after the first genuine rough patch we get?

He has this season and at least the beginning of next season to work with before I'd start calling for his head. And there's no way he'll need that much time to sort this out. He needs to be brave and cut the dead wood. Next summer Jagielka, Distin, Pienaar, Osman, all have to go - and maybe even Howard too.

I can't believe how many A+'s people were giving out in the summer transfer window rating thread, utterly mindblowing

You can surely understand why though?

Nobody thought our defence needed boosting in the summer. Nobody. They were great last season.

Howard was coming off a good season and a good world cup.

Forwards were the priority. And we covered that with our record signing ever.

It's all very well saying now it wasn't the right thing to do. But at the time it was.

Apparently we have the best 2 full backs in the league, the best young centre half in the league and 3 very experienced players to choose from as well as buying Galloway as one for the future, with Oviedo (when fit), Garbutt and Hibbert (though we all doubted him) to cover as well.

This on the back of a great season defensively where everybody excelled!

I am failing to see the drama personally.

Edit - and in reference to DaveK's post, selling Jagielka would be complete madness IMO.

common sense.

not very common with most football fans

The summer transfer window did not warrant A+'s, far from it

I would like to think the management team have been in today for a meeting this morning to discuss the last week. The performance of our 2 opponents in stopping us performing have been almost identical and I won't be using the" found out" comment here but if Roberto thinks that every premiership manager hasn't clocked it then we are in trouble. Some subtle tweeks when the injured masses return and find form is what we need.

I gave it a D at the time

Of course you did. Of course you thought our defence which was bloody good last year needed a big reboot. Even though we have and always have had limited funds and we only had one striker and that we n injured Kone. Of course. I have no idea what you expected to happen really.

To be honest it doesn't really matter. Can't change whatever happened now.

We've got what we've got. I don't expect a thing in January.

It's the bull that gets me,not seen any interviews only what i've read, but I knew he wouldn't come out with the truth,to say we were good in the first half was a joke,we were poor from the off, don't make excuses for the players, the team played badly,he couldn't work out how to break Hull down after they levelled, besides the goal the team never looked like getting a second,If I was a Hull fan,I'd be disappointed they didn't take all three points.
RM needs to stop this incredible, unique, amazing drivel he rolls out after every game and say it like it is."the team were crap, the performance was crap,I was crap, and we all need to knuckle down and get reaction in our next game".something like that will do !.
