Roberto Martinez discussion

Never once said I want him out mate.

Nobody is gonna boo when we are 2-0 up mate, think about it.

If it was as bad as some say then they should have.. Plus Our fans are moaners, we've been winning/drawing and our fans have groaned for a pass that went backwards.. So I'm sure for the worlds worse sub they'd boo wether winning or not!!

It wasn't necessarily a bad substitution (probably was though). However, you, I and everyone else knew that if West Ham scored one then the panic button would be pressed. It even reared its ugly head when Villa got one back midweek. It's alarming.

That is exactly what used to happen with Wigan.

They were coasting along quite well until the other team scored a goal then they looked vulnerable.

But isn't that what negative play exactly you want him to instruct now?

And didn't the fans gleefully sing The School of Science with the arrival of Martinez?
When will people like yourself understand there's a time and a place for negative play. 3-0 up and pissing it vs a championship standard QPR is not the time, 2-0 up with ten men vs West Ham is. Besides it's all very consistent with Martinez's obsession with keeping possession at all costs regardless of wether we actually do anything with it but when somebody actually takes the fight to us our players want no part of it. What does singing school of science have to do with anything? Fans singing and happy to be winning football matches? Shocker! the fans can't win with people like you. It's obvious to everyone week after week at Goodison that even if we do win (on the VERY rare occasion we've managed it over the last two seasons) that It's going to be a long hard painful slog getting over the line. Despite what you and the rest of Martinez's disciples keep telling yourselves, for those of us actually putting our hands in our pockets week after to watch this dross it isn't fun to watch.

This season has made me sad. I was up for it and giving RM another chance(only in my head) and we started off with a great vibe a feel good factor, we looked like the first season might materialise.

Alas it has fallen woefully short of expectation and is turning into a disaster. His philosophy as he calls it, does have a place but he really needed to find the balance. He hasn't don that and it's wore me down, I can't put up with it and think he should go.

Any other manager in any other profession under performs for 18 months would be gone, this should be no different.

I just hope the new shareholder starts rocking the boat and piling on the pressure. In what other job do you get little pressure and expectation from the top but also get highly paid for doing so. The comparisons between Mike Walker and Martinez are there to see and Walker got fired when Johnson took control

The substitute at the time was fine.

Lennon was playing more as a second striker than wide left. Niasse is regarded as hard working so with Lennon tiring it wasn't a bad choice.

Also Niasse is fast which by playing him meant West Ham's defence couldn't step up ten yards and kettle us in. It also meant we had out ball options (he's strong and can make the ball stick in their final third) with him and Lukaku for a defence who were coping admirably but bound to have some late pressure.

As you can see it had valid reasons. It's only been blown up in hindsight due to the hysteria that you and many others are engaging in.

We got beat because we tired eventually with ten men, we didn't handle the crosses so late and because we imploded psychologically after the first goal went in.

Niasse or that sub wasn't the reason we lost so it just looks daft frothing over the chops at it. It wasn't bringing Hibbert on when losing 2-1 at home to Spurs with the clock going down.

If you say so pal, you know best. Once again no blame for el Bob, tactically sound again with the players undermining him again. Something about Moyes thrown in for good measure.

I agree with you though, I donMt know why there's an obsession with this one game, the real question is what is the root cause of 20 months or some if the worst underachievement in the prem? Certain posters' answer to this was 'yeah but there was nothing wrong with the sub on Saturday'. What's yours mate?

You'll have to enlighten me to who this chap is.

However you should have faith, our new Commander in Chief is about to take up his role and he'll demand a fine general on the battlefield. A true leader and a master strategist, a general who commands with authority and integrity, a general who will not only with the battle but will win the war....and win it with pride.

The horizon is upon us, and it's looking mighty beautiful; the grass will be greener and our Commander will ensure we will be successful.

For we are Everton

I am not convinced by the tired argument justifying nutty substitutions.

The squad had just come back from Dubai where they were supposed to have worked on fitness. They had
also had a relatively easy away mid week game. When Lennon came off, the team was coping well defensively and were really dangerous on the break. Lennon especially was playing well, industrious and showing no signs of tiredness and the team structure was denying WHU.

Why change it? And why not make like for like subs? Niasse coming on changed everything. He is new, maybe not match fit, and did not work hard as Lennon had done. It was like watching the WBA game again - bring off your best player and put on a fish out of water. I bet all four defenders had an inward moan when seeing Lennon go off and a new, untested centre-forward come on. That was the real psychological damage.

Finally, I don't know if it has been mentioned but why was Stones playing in midfield with Besic and Barry on the bench?

I used to get headaches trying to understand why DM selected Neville, then why RM selected Howard and now RM's game planning and substitutions.

RM set up just fine and there's actually being loads of calls on here for a back three or to play Stones in midfield.

We went with a three because Barry wasn't fully fit and because it matched up W.Ham's formation
