Roberto Martinez discussion

It is all ok to give Roberto another season and reepat the cycle again.

But would Lukaku want to stay for another season of mid table?

I can guarantee you out of everyone in the squad, lukaku's 20 plus goals a year are not going to be able to be replaced, if nothing else, who that good would want to sign for a mid table team?

That's a good point mate but if we got rid or RM right now and replaced him temporarily with Unsworth or the like I think that would pretty much make up Rom's mind for him.

If there's one thing we know Roberto can do, it's persuade players to stay...

Lukaku will not be here next season unless we change manager and have huge investment. Players like him so not spend years outside the champions league playing for bottom half premier league sides.

There's absolutely no guarantee changing manager would keep him here either.

Rom looks up massively to Martinez, it's well known.

I'm not saying RM should stay unless he shows improvements, but bringing in a new manager wouldn't make a jot of difference whether Rom stays. In fact I think Rom would be more likely to stay if it was RM given that investment if anything...

I've lost all confidence in the idea that he's the right man to take us forward. This season has been like Groundhog Day watching us make the same mistakes over and over, I can't take another season like this one. At most I'd let him stay to the end of the year, but then if he flukes a few results it might buy him another season of this tedious underachieving.

Rom's agent doesn't think he should be here in the first place and has been trying to engineer a move to a 'Big Club' for him since he was hired.

Rom will be away regardless of where we finish this year or next. Sad, but true.

Not true, if the club refuse to sell then he won't go in the simplest terms. It is when Rom can force the move through himself that he would leave, and even then it is based on someone paying his valuation.

Personally though i believe his head turned in the stoke game, 2 goals and an assist and then we lose 4-3? Why would he even want to stay playing for us after that? Especially as the game keeps repeating anyway in our season.

One hope of keeping him is replacing the manager and showing a little ambition in who we bring in, just make the lad a deal, sell him in 12 months if we aren't challenging up there.

At the end of the day Rom only has a finite amount of time in his career so if he knows he can deliver a world class return on a regular basis then we will want to do that for a team who can turn his 20 plus goals into success, not one that turns them into 4-3 defeats at home!

What will have changed his mind is scoring and losing games, with the current manager not changing how we play. If we sacked Martinez tomorrow for arguments sake, stuck someone in temp charge but shown some ambition in his replacement then that might convince him to give it one more year.

Remember Roberto doesn't convince players to stay, hence Stones transfer request....

Did Stones leave mate?

No.

He could have easily kicked up a fuss when that request was turned down and refused to play but he didn't - after discussions with RM.

Lukaku has already stated his intent to be in the Prem next year.

He's an incredibly smart lad. He's going to be 23 by season's end.

He'll be focusing on the Euros first and foremost. If he has a good tournament, then there'll be offers but we will only sell if it's right.

Again, he isn't the type of player who is going to refuse to play either. He's young and wants to keep improving and he knows that he can only do that by being a first choice in the most competitive league in the world.

He isn't going to improve losing games every week though mate? And it can't be very enjoyable to be playing under these circumstances, especially when in all intents and purposes, Rom is more than delivering in his role. If the player loses or has lost faith in the manager then it will have a negative effect on the tactics if he appears then 'lazy' on the pitch.

Stones didn't go
A-because his vaulation wasn't met,
B-The board just refused to sell him on the basis that Martinez could take the team somewhere
C- The deal was wrapped up in the Yarmalenko deal

Either way Martinez had nothing to do with Stones staying, if Chelsea had offered what we wanted at the time then he would have been gone either way.

What are the chances that come this time next year we will be all having the same conversations again about him? To have them once is bad but to have them again is incredible!

1. There is a time and place for negative play.
So you want positive play. Nobody is more positive than Martinez!

2. What does singing school of science have to do with anything?
Fans actually greeted Martinez' arrival with a joyous new song, whereas you claimed that the silent Goodison coincided with Martinez' arrival!

3. For those of us actually putting our hands in our pockets week after to watch this dross it isn't fun to watch.
I've seen some of the most breathtaking and enjoyable football I've ever seen at Goodison this season! The paradox is that it hasn't been converted into home wins.
This.

The one thing that really gets to me is how supporters of Martinez insist that those of us questioning him do so simply because we dislike the man. It's not true, I neither like nor dislike him. I do dislike the results we have been achieving for two years however and I personally believe that the longer he remains our manager the further behind we'll fall.

But what is it based on, this belief?

The PL is changing. Drastically. The only way we were going to stay with the pack was with a new investor. We've got that now. Now its a (more) level playing field.

He can now go out there and buy a top balls CB, a midfield general and a GK.

Judge him when he's had money to buy the finished articles. Not know when he's got a huge volume of untried, untested prospects.

Martinez has 80 wins, 74 draws and 102 defeats from his 256 matches in the prem with us and Wigan.
Tony Pulis has a better win ratio, and lets face it he is normally brought in when things arnt looking to good.
Baffles some think he is still good enough for Everton.
