Roberto Martinez discussion

So still no quotes from Paisley and a second hand story saying that's another season..........you're not showing me where Paisley said it. Are you realistically trying to give Martinez merit because of something your pretending Paisley said?

There is an old saying.

It usually relates to the spoken word but just for your benefit I will update it for the internet age.

I shall paraphrase, so to speak.

It is better that a fellow sits on his hands, refuses to type and has people think he is so pig headed he continues to bluster even when he has been shown to be wrong.......rather than actually post the type of drivel which actually confirms it.

:p

We have 26 points currently, and we have 15 games to play, win the lot and we'll finish on 71 points. A point less than we got last season.

I strongly suspect the vast majority of supporters look to the EL as this seasons salvation, it would be great to win it, I mean Really Great!!! how much room for leeway is granted in terms of league finish balanced against giving a proper account of ourselves on the Euro stage?

Oh dear.

Seriously though, the vast majority accept the reality of second season syndrome and that we need to look forward now to season three under Roberto.

It's pretty much over for this debate apart from a bit of chat that's falling upon deaf ears.

No Dave, have to disagree, not over until the fat lady sings and that will be the season end or no points from the next four games.

It's a fruitless argument. He's here, he's staying here. I know a small minority dont want to hear it, but that's just tough.

This second season syndrome excuse for me is a load of B****ks.Granted the pressure has eased dramatically since our victory against Palace and thankfully we should get enough points under Roberto to stay away from the relegation zone so let us see where the season leaves us at the end.
If Martinez or Kenwright just put our failings this season down to second season syndrome it would be a big mistake, we have to learn from our mistakes and sort it out starting with the planning for next years pre season.
If I was employed by someone and done great for a year but in the second year was absolutely hopeless do you think my boss would accept SSS
as an excuse ? I very much doubt it.

Terrible comparison for me.

Being a milkman (just an example job) is quite a lot different to being a football manager.

Yeah. Being 12th in the league and topping your European group. Hopeless.

lol

I'm not saying we shoudn't learn from it. But it's a common enough sporting phenomenon. Great first seasons can produce complacency and apathy, and I think manager and team have been guilty of it this season. They'll learn from it though. Martinez must have felt managing at the top end of the PL was a piece of piss. He knows different now and I dont expect us to start off on the wrong foot next season...and that starts with a proper pre-season.
