Roberto Martinez discussion

Stones was wanted by Martinez at Wigan, Barkley was given his chance by Martinez after being ignored as wasteful by Moyes, Deulofeu you conveniently ignored, he brought in Eto'o one of the most gifted players of his generation, Lennon - technically poor?

The thing about Moyes is that he didn't use the talent he brought in. He brought them here and made them functional, which is why Martinez was easily able to get a new tune out of them in his first season.

But Dave you should expand on the Eto'o bit, he was a disaster for the club that is apparent now and not a good signing as it turns out.

He wasn't a disaster! He played alright but only a bit of the magic was there. The point is that Martinez tried to bring in creativity.

3. We organically grow a competitive squad and club through clever recruitment and patience.
Unfortunately it's XFactor I WANT SATISFACTION NOW types which will stop number 3 from happening, which is the only likely option for success right now.

This is spot on, and it's the way the club is being run.
Martinez might not be the man to deliver, but he's the right type to try.

The whole "it's not worked this season so lets rip it up and start again" *nods to Orange Juice just shows a lack of understanding of the situation. Same as the nonsense in the transfer rumour thread where people think they can tear a squad apart and rebuild it, something which rarely works ( Soton this season is very much the exception ).

Evolution gives us a chance of improving. Managers, like players, often improve with experience. Lets see what happens next season.

Applauding here. Sensible post on GOT shocker.

@moutsgoat ... take note.

I just wanted to see us having teams off with neat passing triangles, but it turns out Martinez has about as much time for technical players as his predecessor did.

Talk about taking things totally out of context to suit and agenda or biased opinion! Martinez is right what he says....with the poor form we had in the premiership it's been a big positive that we've managed to hit mid-table. He's not saying it's acceptable....he's acknowledging a crap start, and lack of consistency and saying he feels we've done well to move on.

He's NOT saying it's acceptable FFS.
