Barry's just too slow and old. When you have options of Barkley, McCarthy, Cleverley why play Barry?
 
As a fella on the phone in succinctly put it, today didn't feel like the 1st game of a new season. It felt like the 39th game of last season.

Nothing has changed and why would it? Exactly the same square pegs playing in round holes, in a system that doesn't suit them or play to their strengths. The sole difference was the addition of a free transfer and even he is of the exact same mediocre ilk.

Until there's a change to our game plan and/or investment is made to sign 'top 6 calibre' players, nothing will change.
 

I'll judge after he has the new players brought in but today we played like the everton of last season- something which the "it's only 1 game" can't or won't grasp.

Martinez could learn alot from Gary Monk, very underrated manager who seems to recruit well and play a good blend of nice football but can mix it up and battle.

One could say this of a number of signings by RM. So what exactly is he seeing in these players one could ask.
 
Last season wasn't a fluke and it wasn't solely down to Europe, as has been explained by many people numerous times. The players weren't good enough last season and the same players are still there (minus Distin who barely played and Alcaraz).
 
I don't think Martinez is playing certain players because he is afraid of dropping them. We have learned that he has incredible self believe, he is playing those players because he believes they are the best for the system he believes in.
Self belief is great in a manager, unless what you believe in is wrong.

Fine, but the system I believe in is getting out there, getting stuck in and winning.
