Roberto Martinez discussion

Yeah, the second goal conceded v Watford was awful from Howard. Of course we might not have scored again but we were in the ascendency. Yesterday would have been 0-0 without his gaffe. 7 points from three games after not playing especially well. That's what sides like Liverpool and United do. Sides like Everton will remain in mid table whilst we continue to employ s championship level goalkeeper who was statistically the worst in the league last year.

the difference between howard and de gea last season was about a 25 point gap between us two.

robles was as shaky as de gea was when he started, started to get some confidence and dropped after 3 clean sheets - howard comes back in and we concede again. i don't see robles as a great future no.1, but there's no question in my mind that we'd be better with him starting right now.

Think Robles will get a chance on the TV this week.

With @ijjysmith doing the preview think he will be jinxed into doing a howler.

In no way am I a fan of Tim Howard.
I think it's our weakest position at the moment. But blaming him for our defeat yesterday and the draw with Watford isn't correct.
City found themselves clear in on goal on numerous occasions because they just waltzed through our defence and were left with just Howard to beat.
Any keeper is going to be beaten eventually if the opposition is given enough clear chances. He could have done better on both goals - but we could have also been three down at half time. He was having a blinder up until then.
Against Watford - Stones lost us 2 points.
Big deal: Howard saved a couple of shots. It's what he's paid to do. It doesn't give him a free pass to then concede two horrendous goals in the second half.

When was the last time you could say Howard put in a game saving performance for Everton like Butland put in for Stoke on Saturday?

I've never minded Howard, tbh. I'm certainly not one of his biggest critics. But he's on the slippery slope out of top flight football now. And he's costing us dear.

Nah, I thought I'd come in here after a defeat and praise him, as that's perfect for my agenda.

Your such a weapon!!

Pretty sure you'll find I've been nothing but positive of RM so far this season since he's showed clear change

No need for the abuse, I've flagged it. Regarding your position on RM, you've given back handed compliments where you could squeeze them in.

Which of our current squad have become worse players in the past 24 months? I ask becuase of all posters you have rambled on (led Zeppelin) more than most about 13/14 and now you are saying that it will take Kenwright and Co to help get us fighting for Europe. Which to an extent I agree with but are you honestly saying that we dont have a squad, as things stand that cant aim for europe?

I just hope you're not currently covering all bases.

IMHO this team is more than capable of competeing with Liverpool, Spurs and Swansea for places 5 through 7

I know you never like to set Martinez targets because it may have a come back but FFS do not say that this current squad as things stand can't comptete for top 7 whilst lavishing masses of praise upon Martinez for what he did (with this squad BTW) 2 years ago

Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Utd will all add players to their squad, yet you're saying we don't need to because Dave admires what Roberto did in his first season.... LOL.

There's nothing personal about my comment, there's a number of people who come out of the woodwork after a loss but don't post after a win. That's not personal or aimed at one poster, it's a group of them, that's just the way it is.

People have actually called for him to be sacked. 3 games in, and 7th in the table - 'sack the manager.'

Utter, utter clowns.

They're entitled to their opinion, of course, but perhaps for the sake of balance they could post their views when we lose and when we win.

A good example is @daz4matty , he's not a big fan of Martinez but usually win lose or draw discusses it all the same and gives credit where it's due, and is prepared to give him some more time. I have loads of respect for a decent poster like that.

Yeah of course they are entitled to their opinion, it doesn't make them correct though. If we were to sack Roberto today, we'd be a laughing stock within professional football circles.

He's got till November to have us at least in the top 10, absolute minimum, for me anyway. That's a pretty low achievement in reality, but it's a base to launch from into Xmas and the New Year to aim for Europe when we're historically stronger.

Bed time for me anyway.

Tbf, mate, I read stuff like this and know you dont have too much of a clue about the football you're watching.

What's back is an attempt to get back to the first season's pace of movement and passing. Simply that. The fact you see this as a massive departure from Martinez's modus operandi speaks volumes.

In all fairness the passing his back and some of the play from the defence through the midfield yesterday was great. I'll disagree with the movement yesrerday though, there was not enough movement off the ball in the final third. Saying that, it was City and they got a lot of people behind the ball when we had it

Yeah, he had a decent first first half.
