Roberto Martinez discussion

It's a superb record so far, really. Totally vindicates his approach to football.

far better to have a team that can beat the big boys and work on making them more consistent than trying to improve the quality of a team that consistently lay down and die whenever a heavy hitter rolls into town.

Our home record against the top 4 on the latter years under Moyes was also good. Raising our game at Goodidon against the big boys is not something Everton have a problem with. Playing Liverpool and Spurs, plus winning away at the top teams is something we have a problem with and that has remained. The derby performances apart from 13/14 at home (which we bottled) have been very very poor. I'm looking for an improvement on that this year as this is surely the worst Liverpool side in prem history.

They don't have that foreheadless gimp anymore to lift their sub-standard players to an average level, and their average players to a deity-like level. I do think him not being there will get rid of that mental block we have whenever we've played them recently. For the first time in a while, I'm on the cusp of being actually confident for a derby

We've always cowered in midfield in the derby with Barry and McCarthy being run over by dross like Henderson and Lucas and of course a geriatric Gerrard. Hopefully with Gerrard gone we can outplay them without fear but they normally drag us down to their level of kick and rush football.

Agreed, they are really very average, and we've definitely got the players to beat them especially at home. It's nice that as Gerrard has retired, Barkley seems to be coming into his own...hopefully he'll terrorise them for the next 12 years like he did to us.

Add Yarmolenko to our squad and I think we have with Arsenal the joint 2nd best squad in the league.
Give mummy her phone back darling

Oh god what.
Spurs and Liverpool are hardly pulling up trees so that leaves Utd and Chelsea.

Well we just beat Chelsea quite comfortably and were able to leave players like Deulofeu and Mirallas on the bench as well as coping with a load of injuries. Chelsea had pretty much a full team squad apart from Oscar and when they needed a goal could only look to bring on kids who didn't exactly look very impressive. The only player I rate much higher than anyone we have is Hazard and I think Yarmolenko is just as good.

Utd don't have anyone to put the ball in the back of the net if Rooney isn't scoring and are now forced to rely on a 21 year old with no premier league experience and a 19 year old also with no premier league experience that no one had heard of 2 months ago.

I think people are underestimating the strength of not just our first team but our squad. This season is wide open.

I think Liverpool are still a decent team. Any team that has strikers like Sturridge and Bentenke to call on will be dangerous.

Their defence seems weaker though, and you'd question wether they'll play with as
much spirit without Gerrard in the team.

We need to go right at them. I think the high tempo of the derby will suit our midfield more than theirs this time.

Lord almighty.

You cannot equate beating a team - comfortably or not - with having a better squad than them. It's absolute nonsense.

Rooney being out of form does not make our squad better than United's.

Yarmolenko is not as good as Hazard.
