Roberto Martinez discussion

It seems like he's only been here five minutes, but he's now the 6th longest serving current Premier League manager. Wenger, Howe, Hughes, Mourinho and Pellegrini are the only longer serving managers.

He seems like he's actually got a long term vision for the club unlike many managers, and I think last season proves that, like Moyes, he'll be given time.
That's very symptomatic of the current Premier League - high risk, high rewards.

The problem is a lot of clubs get into a boom bust cycle that is hard to get out of.

Take Liverpool now, the departing manager and staff will need a big pay off. The new manager will want to assess the squad and implement a new system which will mean some big money signings will be moved on and probably for loss. The new manager will also want his own players and financial backing from the owners, so a load more money spunked after £300m spent in three years by the departing one.

The new managers strategy may impact and change the youth system too so will effect future players coming through.

It's the harder option but there's something to be said for stability and organic growth through good solid strategy.

I'd be much happier if our managers were backed like theirs though as it would help accelerate any success. Or maybe, like in their instance, not.

Aye agreed. The odds are against him achieving with his plan as our best players will be pilfered at some point but at least he has a clear strategy for medium and long term, and importantly one which is delivering bit of success now.

The time and patience we show to our managers and young players will be noted by both categories and should benefit Everton for a few years yet.

And, you have to say, credit to the board on that front. There's not much identity for most Prem clubs these days with a new manager every season (not to mention the lack of local players in most squads). It's nice to feel that we can have one.

Yes and no I think - the business model sort of necessitates a certain loyality, but I'm the first to agree the "local" element is welcome as is the general club culture. More than most clubs we have an identity and tend to recruit those (playing and non-playing) who can identify with it.

Like Hughes, Mourinho and Pellegrini, Martinez is now in his third season.

Eddie Howe has been back at Bournemouth for nearly three years, but he hasn't completed one season in the Premier League.

Thought we were good yesterday, unlucky not to come away 3-1 or better when you consider they should of lost a player and the quality of two of chances we had.

Martinez is impressing me more and more lately, possibly because I stopped listening to his press conferences which just annoy me, but also because we are playing some great football this season and with just a couple of the big games to go, we are still high up the league with (hopefully) good times to come.

I think we will return to that free flowing football when all the pegs are in place. This start due to a imposing early schedule has me very excited. The pundits had us floundering in the bottom three by now. What do they know? Absolutely nothing!
