The question is will his appointment convince our better players to stay. The RS managed to keep theirs when Rodgers took over the helm, but will ours? It looks like Felliani will be on his way (but that was always going to happen with or without moyes) jags has already committed himself to the club next season, lets hope Barnes wants to stay. Ultimately Martinez will have his own ideas as to what players he wants and how he wants them to play, but I have no doubt that our scouts will have identified players to strengthen the team e.g. Fer and the coaching staff will discuss with Martinez what we need. Laudrup would have been my choice, but if rumours are true that he wants a 40m kitty to spend, otherwise he will review his position at swansea, then I guess we were never in the running for him anyway.

How many prem games has mcmanaman played, though? 5 or 6 isn't it?

Rodwell got more than a hundred.

Yeah he only started 8 league games there. Ross started 4 here, and is younger.

McManaman would be a good option off of the bench though. Something we've lacked this season, being able to inject some skill and pace into the game when some legs are getting tired.

I would be delighted with Martinez as our next Manager.

He aims to play football the way it should be played, which will be a refreshing change from the safety-first approach we have grown used to under the last regime.

I think he's better than Hughes, O'Neill, Lennon, Bruce and the other rent-a-boss managers.

Ok, he may not be top of everybody's list, heck, he may not even be on your list. But if he's willing to come and try to do a good job let's give him an honest crack at it. What will we gain by slating him before he's even begun? Let's be supporters and support.

Could be worse. Of course he's just got Wigan relegated, but at the same time he kept them in the league for a while with an awful team and has won more in the last 10 years than we have.

Some dodgy signings, but let's not forget that here he can pay players 5x as much and will be a more attractive prospect due to having a better team and being a far bigger club. Plus I imagine our scouting team will remain generally the same.

Wigan's defence has been awful, yes, but we've got Jagielka/Distin to their Caldwell/Boyce and Baines to their Espinoza, so individual mistakes will be reduced and we'll have better defensive specialist coaches I reckon. If there's still issues we could appoint Weir to specifically look after defensive issues.

His teams have played a good style of football and he seems like a nice, honest guy which isn't the most important thing but is still good.

All in all I'd have maybe preferred one or two of the other names mentioned but I'm quite happy with this. For those who aren't - say what you like on forums, but keep it here, eh? Be as positive as possible at the game as no good can come from our manager being slated to his face. And remember: at least it's not Mark Hughes.

Very very good post.
Wish you could still rep on this ffs

Hopefully.

I think a lot of the football wigan have played is dire, tbh, this year we've been much the better footballing side than them. But he likes pass and mvoe and we've got a squad very good at pass and move so it could go very well.

Our scouts (except Moyes's dad) are going to Man Utd with Moyes.

Our chief scout is mate, not all of them, our scouting network will be huge, liek most premier league clubs, United will have scouts already that Moyes will meet and use.

Bar Pereira, he's the best of a bad, bad bunch.

Hopefully the deal is concluded before dinner time.

Speaking of which, I'm F***ing starving.

Don't we still get first dibs on the footy manager database?

Who needs scouts! ;)

Comes off well in most interviews (part from the ones when Wigan were bummed 9-0), players seem to like him too.

Ok mate. Hopefully he will go for better players.
