TEAM PEREIRA

All this Pereira wankery is bull****. I would love to see Martinez at either Benfica or Porto in what is a pathetic, Latin Scottish league. You get either of those two teams and you're golden, its a two horse race and impossible to lose. Taking on Wigan and having to sell your best players every year with only a fraction given for reinvestment in a league that spends heavily, that is a challenge. That takes bravery. I know he took them down but honestly I think if they hadn't won the FA Cup, if they hadn't been distracted by it, they would have comfortably stayed up. And then it just comes to, what would you prefer, 17th or 18th and the FA Cup?

You're a bit too harsh on the portoguese league but largely nail it for me.

Pereira has never been anything but one of the two best teams and highest spenders in the league. Everton are outspent 5:1 by the rich teams in the league. He's literally never experienced that kind of inequality within the league before.

Martinez, OTOH, knows exactly what it takes to compete vs richer teams and win trophies vs staggering inequalities in wealth.

i've come to the conclusion now that I just want this manager thing done. If it is Martinez, then so be it. If he keeps Stubbs/Weir/Irvine and plays Barkley/Stones/Velios more this season then it may not be a bad thing (which is what I keep telling myself)

Exactly mate.

If we don't get Martinez now I'll be disappointed.

Martinez vs Pereira seems to be the known vs unknown. We know what we will get with Martinez, I don't think there's much upside there but probably less risky. Pereira I think is the opposite. I don't think I'd be terribly upset by either appointment.

I'm not sure either is enough to get excited about, but that seems to be what our position is at the moment.

Completely agree.

Put Martinez at Porto and he'd at least match what Pereira has done, just look at Pereira's European record, average at best.

People just love an 'Exotic' name
