Anyone who is expecting us to progress is kidding themselves, the problem was never Moyes it was Kenwright and his team of kopites.

NO MANAGER in the world could take Everton forward under the current board and finances, the best we can hope for is a Cup win.

BINGO.

What do you think then? Is the deal not quite at the stage where it can be made official or is whelan just making up his usual ****e?

Personally mate, i think it is all done, that statement was more Everton telling Whelan to shutup and that we'll be the ones to announce it and not him, if you get me.

from the express ..
"A final round of talks with Kenwright will now include which members of his backroom staff Martinez wants to bring with him from Wigan – with assistant Graeme Jones, goalkeeping coach Inaki Bergara, chief scout Kevin Reeves and fitness coach Richard Evans all having been tipped to make the move."

if true , as i feared , thats one low grade backroom staff.

So these are the people who had an input in having Wigan relegated, just F++k them right off ,wouldn't have them anywhere near FF

I hope Martinez won't bring a list of staffs and players from Wigan. He needs to look for better people to play and work for him now.

He might bring his number 2 with him cos that his partner in crime, that doesn't bother me as we have had round for years anyway. Don't know about signing players depend if there is a bargain, he wont be able to over-pay.

Wasn't keen on Martinez at first, looking at all his negatives and being a big moyes fan myself just couldn't get my head round a manager who's just been relegated with his seeming attacking football at all costs approach.

However over the last week that changed. The more you look into it with an open mind the more Martinez makes sense. Make no mistake for Martinez this is his "managerial test", this is where he will prove whether he's overated or underrated, and given our position of being safe in the PL so to speak, I'm glad it's us taking the risk/chance with him.

He's 39! Young and already with PL expierence. Expierence comes in various ways. Not just success but failure, any manager with brains which I firmly believe he has, would have to have learnt from managing Wigan. His defensive side was a major worry to me but let's be realistic...we're not going to all of a sudden ship 70 odd goals, our defenders are 10x better than wigans. We might concede a few more being open, but if we're scoring more and still getting results who care's. And with the current back room staff it's certainly something that can be worked on (look at arsenal with Steve bold this season).

He transfer's have been good, when you consider he was signing players willing to play for Wigan. They surely must of been year on year one of the bottom 3 attractive propositions for players looking to sign for a club. I don't know exactly what wigans top wage was but I'd be suprised if it was more than 20k. Everton will open up a whole new world for him on this front.

He's a risk sure, as would be any of the other mooted replacements. I'm very intrigued if I'm honest to see what he can do with this set of players and how effective his change in style could be (or not). It may also help us not being a known substance to other teams who use tactics against us to get a point. We may suprise a few of those! If things go well he's another manager who could and would be happy to spend 10yrs or so here which I think is important and again if all goes well could be another manager we lose to one of the biggest biggest team...probably in Spain!

So doubters chill....take your VP specs off and look at Martinez with a open mind, you will feel better and optimistic....

If it all goes Titt's up laudrup would be cheaper next summer!!

Interesting times ahead with Roberto.

Vitor was my No.1 candidate but I agree that RM has many virtues and I will be getting behind him.

The major concern of course is how his teams defend but as we have far better defenders than Wigan you can reasonably hope that this may be mitigated .. One thing is for sure we will look to retain posession far better than under Moyes.

I think that we will line up 3-5-2 which would suit our best 11 :

Howard
Jagielka Heitinga Distin
Coleman Gibson Fellaini Piennar Baines
Miralles Jelavic.

That team ( with Jela on form ) is capable of top 6 perhaps higher and a good run in the cup as well as playing great football.

If we could bring in a Negredo or such like then I would expect 4th or 5th.

Problem is :

a. Will he have to sell any of that team and
b. We are painfully thin in cover.

Relating to b. we have adequate cover at full back and thats about it.
We would need an experienced centre half to support Duffy.

We need at least 1 if not 2 midfielders to augment Osman and Barkley ( particularly given Gibson's fitness record and Fellaini's disciplinary problems.

Up front we need an out and out centre forward to cover.

If we sell Heitinga , Fellaini and or Baines then the problem is of course compounded.

Blue Bill needs to think very carefully about how we are going to support RM. That is the concern - not supporter reaction.

A prudent investment of say £20 million plus a couple of free transfers then good times ahead.

If not sell Fellaini and keep your fingers crossed!

I think the wording in Everton's statement was a little odd.

Still think it will happen, but there was something strange about the statement. Could just be Everton being careful.

Bit harsh that mate. For eg. The same staff that were doing well with Harry at spurs went to qpr? Moyes has/is taking staff to utd to replace staff who won the league.

Martinez No.2 is very highly rated, his GK coach was with him at Swansea and woods has to be replaced, his chief scout and fitness coach are hardly the key to success and failure and will work along with our current staff.
