You can look at it from the other angle - if he's absolutely brilliant, imagine the outcry if he was only tied into a 12 month contract which he then refused to extend and walked into a bigger job at the end of the season for nothing.

Sound familiar?

A one year contract is not the way to go. He will probably be given at least 4 years so it shows faith and trust in the manager and gives the manager the comfort of knowing he can build for the future. A one year contract would have an adverse affect IMO. He won't be on as much as Moyes and i would say probably half the amount with step ups depending on how he is doing.

No he will be on half of what Moyes is on which will leave room for a payrise if he doing a great job after4 years.

England played 3 at the back, how did Jags look in that formation

He looked very comftable actually. He took the role of the LCB which I imagine would be the weakest for him personally. Cahill was CB and jones RCB. But yeah jags was fine and competent passing the ball out all night.

As I said, the suprise to me was the massive difference it made to the game. All of a sudden England had lots of possession. Seemed to have huge numbers of players going forward but also huge numbers back defending. It was only the last 30 mins they played it, so hard to judge completely but it changed the game from being a goal down to 2-1 up.

I see, cant see Martinez changing our formation at first, he might not want to tinker with the defence but we do have Coleman and Baines who are perfect for this formation tho.

Yes and there is no reason it can't work at Everton if need be. Martinez said he played that formation because of the type of players he had at the club, in other words the 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 systems, he felt, were not suitable with the players he had available to him. People are being a little too quick to diss that system because it got wigan relegated and ignore the fact that injuries and not as good players on Championship wages were the main cause.

The more you think about the wages Moyes was on now in retrospect, the more unreal it gets. Everton are going to make that compo package up with Whelan at a stroke in the first year by handing Martinez a reduction in our manager salary.
