Although I would have preferred someone of a higher calibre than Martinez he's young and ambitious and hopefully he'll be able to develop into a good manager here. After all, everyone has to make their name somewhere, why can't Martinez do it here? The only real reservations I have about Martinez is that he might be a bit too nice so he might not have that killer instinct and he plays that stupid 3-5-2 formation, I don't like it because it sacrifices too much of the defense and it leaves the wings very vulnerable but at the end of the day I don't really care, as long as it wins us games and improves us in the long run I'm happy.

Martinez only started playing that 'stupid'system at the tail end of the season before last, and it actually kept Wigan up. It was a brave move on his part at that time and I doubt whether our previous manager whatsisname would have had the bottle to make such a radical change if Everton had been in a similar position to Wigan.

I'm satisfied with Martinez. This may sound silly but I hope he knows how fortunate he is to land this job. You can say plenty of bad things about our club but we gave Moyes time and patience to do his job, I just hope Martinez is given the same patience. That includes us fans, too.

One thing is expectation has since changed. If now is 2002 maybe I would be more patient. I will not be happy if Everton finish below 7th. Moyes gives me this expectation.

I think he will do well here , he comes across as a sound fella the players just need to get right behind him .

Getting off to a good start in the league is vital though if we can do that who knows .

So SpeedEFC thinks he will develop into a good manager here?? Meaning we want another one who is going to learn how to manage at our expense before moving on.

Let's hope the fixture computer is kind to us and gives us Liverpool in the first game. Suarez banned and the new manager effect shoould mean we snot them good style.
failing that ...... nothing will please me more than us getting man utd first game of the season at old trafford and stuffing them good and proper.

Agreed on that, but any manager we would've brought in would find it difficult to match or even better Moyes in terms of league finishes. Especially on a shoestring budget like here at Everton.

I don't like how he claims to love Wigan and yet every season he has been flirting with other clubs and now leaves them in the Championship.

I will get behind him if he is the choice, but not who I wanted.

I'm more excited as an evertonian to Martinez than I would be if I supported united getting moyes.

We have a top 7 side, we are not going to battle relegation. Below the top 7 their isn't a single team who I'd say are better or at the same level as us. I know we won't necessarily improve our league position next year, but if we do worse than this season It will be a failure in my eyes.

We don't need revolution as we're doing quite nicely anyway, it's not as if we've just sacked a manager & are in the mire.

He needs to come in & develop what we've got bring in a couple of new faces & look to move it forwards, not rip it up & start from scratch

Turned down by Villa and Liverpool in the past to stay at Wigan. Barely call that flirting.

Agree and that's show how good Moyes is.
