One thing is expectation has since changed. If now is 2002 maybe I would be more patient. I will not be happy if Everton finish below 7th. Moyes gives me this expectation.

Prior to this season I wouldn't have been. Now though, I appreciate we're going through a big change and as long as Martinez shows promising signs then I'll be happy.

I don't like how he claims to love Wigan and yet every season he has been flirting with other clubs and now leaves them in the Championship.

I will get behind him if he is the choice, but not who I wanted.
He can't really help it if other clubs come asking for him, can he? He rejected them 'all' thus far, hasn't he?

Turned down by Villa and Liverpool in the past to stay at Wigan. Barely call that flirting.

He only didn't go to Liverpool because he wasn't going to be able to run the club how he wanted.

But lets be honest, multiple times Martinez has been the centre of a "Will he go" saga.

We have a top 7 side, we are not going to battle relegation. Below the top 7 their isn't a single team who I'd say are better or at the same level as us. I know we won't necessarily improve our league position next year, but if we do worse than this season It will be a failure in my eyes.

Me too. I expect us to finish 7th at least (I have made a concession, not 6th) because Martinez has inherented this great group of players from Moyes.

You are all talking like Martinez is the manager. Nothing has happened yet.

What date does pre-season start?

Martinez only started playing that 'stupid'system at the tail end of the season before last, and it actually kept Wigan up. It was a brave move on his part at that time and I doubt whether our previous manager whatsisname would have had the bottle to make such a radical change if Everton had been in a similar position to Wigan.

But Steve, because our previous manager excelled in his job, we never needed such drastic changes. You've got your wish though, moyes out new manager in. Let me ask you, do you stand by your ludicrous assertion that moyes would never get a bigger job than Everton? And more to the point, as he was doing such a bad job, you now see us improving on a top 6 finish?

I know what you mean, but like I just said, I think he only turned Liverpool down because he couldn't run the club from top to bottom.

I don't know what part of it bothers me really, maybe it's just that he never really shuts the rumours down. Maybe it's just because I cant see him being here for the long haul

We'll be getting some silverware next season

Not the Worst...

Agreed on that, but any manager we would've brought in would find it difficult to match or even better Moyes in terms of league finishes. Especially on a shoestring budget like here at Everton.

Martinez is not the worst option by far and he doesnt need to learn his trade here - he did that in 4 years at Wigan. He has PL experience and wont be afraid of going to Citeh or Chelski - he has been there before and knows all the teams in he PL. His teams have played some attacking footy and he did not bottle it in the cup final like another certain person might have. His defensive frailties can be fixed if he keeps Round and Stubbs.
Every manager finds his place even if he has been a bit meh at other places - look at the enormous Bell in charge of the barcodes, or Arse of the Arse, even Howard the great - they are suited to the clubs they are/were at, and maybe Martinez is suited to EFC.
Clearly our motto for next years badge should be "Nil Satis Nisi Optimum Est Constituo". Look it up!
