Well, no. That's no good.

Playing positive football. Going for it at The Emirates, Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge, Anfield, White Hart Lane etc... Playing young players when we're NOT suffering an injury crisis. That kind of thing.
Right well we only lost at 2 of the top 7 away this year.
Maybe I am confusing things, or old fashioned, I'd like us to continue progressing as we have been, pick up more points, and finish higher in the league. Every year we have improved. Lets get 67 points and have top 4. Since when has fluke. Win away from home and give a teenager a game equated to nil satis nisi optimum?

Martinez is not the worst option by far and he doesnt need to learn his trade here - he did that in 4 years at Wigan. He has PL experience and wont be afraid of going to Citeh or Chelski - he has been there before and knows all the teams in he PL. His teams have played some attacking footy and he did not bottle it in the cup final like another certain person might have. His defensive frailties can be fixed if he keeps Round and Stubbs.
Every manager finds his place even if he has been a bit meh at other places - look at the enormous Bell in charge of the barcodes, or Arse of the Arse, even Howard the great - they are suited to the clubs they are/were at, and maybe Martinez is suited to EFC.
Clearly our motto for next years badge should be "Nil Satis Nisi Optimum Est Constituo". Look it up!

Google translation came up with this: "and, behold, in the midst of them, Jesus Christ appeared, in particular, of the most beautiful young man." Agreed on the rest of your post. That's why I always held Moyes in such high regard. He seemed tailor made for us.

Give Martinez a fair chance if he comes - our previous manager finished 18th in his second season and got that chance -
if he does not improve our current standings after two seasons the situation must be reassessed -
I hope Everton gets lucky -
Martinez has an opportunity to make a big name for himself and to rebuild Everton to its former glory -
you go boytjie !!!

I don't think under Moyes we finished 18th mate. We would have been relegated.

That'll be 17th then, but I do agree with the general sentiment. Key is to get behind the new manager whoever he is, no point turning into that lot down at Stamford Bridge

To be honest a lot of the most common points people have made do nothing to make me feel better about Martinez. It's mostly speculation. Some of it educated and some just "wish it was true" stuff: like the "fact" he's a great big game/Cup manager.

However what DOES make me feel better is his dedication to the game. He seems fairly progressive in that regard. Super engaged. He'll represent the club well. Physio background and focus on fitness seems encouraging. He seems smart and hard-working ... it's hard to screw up too badly with that combo.

This may be a fairly difficult concept to explain but I wasn't keen on a manager who was just relegated because I wish we were attracting "bigger" names BUT I don't particularly care he got relegated. The fact he was relegated with a team spending pretty much the least of any team in the league is fairly irrelevant in predicting how he'll do here.

He didn't drastically under-perform in relegating Wigan; he just failed to ever over-perform to any significant degree (aside from the Cup run of course). If another team had hired him and a mate of mine who was a fan was worried about them being relegated I'd tell him that it's not really a big deal given Wigan's stature.

But that doesn't mean I don't wish we had a chairman who wasn't afraid to reach a little and sell the club to someone whom the general public wouldn't think would take this job. The fact a relegated manager is our only serious option is depressing; but the fact he got relegated doesn't matter in judging him. I guess it's a case of judging BK's job in the manager search v. judging Martinez. That might not make sense to anyone else.

Don't see the point in being negative about it tbh mate, as it now looks like he's 99% likely to be our new manager. All i know is we're more likely to win those one off games which are the difference between winning a trophy and not winning one for nearly 20 years.
The four early round exits to lower league opposition he apparently suffered in the prior years* not a concern? They aren't to me actually but if I'm paying attention to the Cup he won then shouldn't I pay attention to the Cups he crapped out of early too?

* I haven't looked this up but somebody mentioned it in the other thread. If it's wrong then sorry ... no time to look it up now.

Anyway I couldn't give a crap about the half lottery that is Cups as far as its usefulness in predicting future events. I'd love to win one, don't get me wrong. For the fans and club it's fantastic. However as a useful tool for predicting future events? It's pretty useless. The Cups won by Birmingham, Middlesbrough, Blackburn and Leicester did not signal great things ahead. Hell we won a Cup and went on the worst run I have ever witnessed in my time as an Everton fan ... we were utterly horrible for six years afterwards and very lucky not to get relegated.

Doesn't mean that he's NOT going to be better at winning those games either of course. But doesn't mean he IS either (as much as people WANT it to be true given the fact we've gone almost 20 years without a Cup which is an outrage assuming you ignore the fact we usually only win a domestic Cup once every 25 years or so).

I'm not against Moyes' tenure at the club and if given the choice I'd have him here for next season. Unfortunately that isn't the case though so I'm trying to look at positives of his replacement.

I agree with regards to NSNO, but unfortunately we're not in the same league financially as any of the 5 teams above us, or the team that finished below us. It's hard to think of how we could progress as a club without money, unless we can win some trophies under Martinez.
