It would suit me fine.

Everton aren't going to get relegated and we aren't going to finish top 4. The way to judge us are on derbies, cup runs and style of football.

Ultimately the true measure of success is cup wins. If Martinez can win one here, that'll be what he's remembered for, if we can't he'll have done no worse than moyes.

There in lies where we will always disagree in our expectations. We've been top 4 under Moyes and come close a few times. If a couple of singings had come off this year, or even if Jelly would have found some scoring boots, we'd have finished top 4 this season too.

This is EFC, we should always be striving for top 4. Being a mid table club aiming for a good cup run isn't the EFC way, if that's what you want you'll love the new club badge. The true measure of success isn't cup wins for me, it's Champions league and progression. There've been a couple of clubs we've got relegated and won a cup, that isn't for EFC, not by a long shot

That's not what he said though. The point is that even the most intelligent or knowledgable people make mistakes, as Ferguson has done in the past.

No idea why your sticking your beak in, but he was looking to devalue the judgement of Ferguson due to him signing a duffer in Bebe. It was a cock of a comment.

It's amazing that you've managed to turn "I'd rather finish 5th or 6th than win a trophy" into a position of ambition.

So the view of a man who lifted 38 pots in just over a quarter of a century is deemed worthless due to him buying Bebe?

haha, yeah ok lad.

Didn't say that, just said he can make mistakes. Ferguson has never had to appoint a successor. His career doesn't automatically make him an incredible headhunter of managers and it's silly to make that link and proclaim Moyes as a legend before he starts the job.

As opposed to the magical 6th or 7th placed trophy under Moyes ?

Much of a muchness if we can actually win something under Martinez.

You're forgetting a 4th, some Champions league and Europa league. If you're finishing 6th and 7th, it means you're not far off pushing for 4th usually. I'd rather that than being mid table, which means you're more likely to be flirting with relegation at some point.

I don't always disagree with you, but I'm wondering if there is a divide in the fan base between those who would rather a cup win, and those who would rather be pushing for top 4. In an ideal world we'd have both obviously

I just really admire Martinez' style of football and his character. For the price of those two I am willing to give him alot of support. I do hope I'm not alone in this.

Is it me or are all the Martinez backers conveniently saying he's not their first choice, some sort of get out of jail free card for when he plummets us down the league maybe .........

Probably you mate, however weren't most on here keen to see Moyes go, and now everyones panicing that no-one will get us top 6 other than the great 'unknown by most 2 weeks ago but with the sexy name and a white stallion'? I'm sure the reciprocal argument that team Vitor followers will play the get out of jail free card by saying "if we'd signed him we'd b Champions League-bound".....its all the same argument mate.

Exactly. If the new manager who is likely to be Martinez makes the wrong signings this summer and we end up finishing 11th, our better players see there is no hope in this club and will want to leave. If our original core of players eventually leave then big toruble ahead as I really don't trust Martinez to make the right signings.

If we are to have Martinez, then so be it. But what is really frightening is seeing reports that he wants to bring FIVE players from a relegated team with him. FIVE

"reports'....from the media....who always tell the Gospel.....and who don't need any old guff to fill column inches.

Righty-ho!

That very same manager spunked money on Bebe. Proof with Moyes will be over the next 2 years - gloating now just makes you look stupid.
On the subject of saf making some crap personnel decisions and hosing money on them, besides bebe how about djemba djemba, kleberson, taibi, veron etc.
Ah well, at least the boy moyes was free

Sure.

It's definitly a divide. And it's one that can't really be breached by argument, you either value trophies over top 4 or you don't.

I don't think it's a question of ambition, just how you look at the game.

News just in, there is a new front runner ahead of Martinez for the job. A journalist on twitter has reported Bill Kenwright has gone out for dinner to discuss a contract with new up and coming manager Hamsanhwech
