Your scenario could just as likely happen if we had Mourhino, Pereira, De Boer or Neil Warnock....it's all hypothetical.

But I think this scenario is more likely to happan if Martinez is in charge. Of course you can disagree with it.

Apparently the teams that win cups always finish low down the league, oh wait a second. Since we last lifted the FA cup, every team that's one it with a few exceptions have been in the top half of the table. Bang goes that ridiculous argument then.

Your Portsmouth's and Wigan's of this world lifting it are the exception to the rule, not the trend some would have you believe. League position is a more accurate reflection of your likelihood of lifting a cup.

I'd rather be aiming high, than meandering along with the hopes that we get lucky on a cup run. It's like people who work hard, and those who hope they'll trip over a lotto win. Sure we'd all like to win the lottery, but that wouldn't stop us from working hard now would it.

I do like this logic as well. People can't seem to understand, you should aim to do as well as you can in the league, as well as trying to progress as far as you can (and win) cups.
The aim should be to win football matches. There's no extra points for winning at Anfield or Old Trafford.

End of the day we've swapped a manager who couldn't win the cup with the 6th best team in the league when all he had to do was beat chesterfield, oldham, wigan at home, and millwall to reach the final for one who won it with a team so poor they got relegated.

Our team is still just as good, but now we have a manager who has proven being able to handle a cup run. Our chance of winning trophies is probably higher.

The Fiorentina season we could have done it and we did do it in 2004-05.

But other than that, not really. This year we would have had to have won something like eleven games in a row to make it, it was never realistic.

Granted, but that had a lot to do with the teams above us going on strong runs of form. Our main problem as always, was squad strength. There were plenty of games that we drew, where we would have won with an in form striker. So you can look at the tail half and ask for the impossible, or you can view the season as a whole and recognise we were a lot closer to being in that fourth spot than you're suggesting.

Thats like saying Man City challenged for the championship this year because they finished 2nd but we all know they didnt, Man Utd walked it, it wasnt even close.

The same with us for 4th really, in the end it wasnt even close.

Now you're just being ridiculous.

We were top 4 until the teams below us picked up the pace, and then we sank out and ended up 6th.

We haven't finished 5th for four seasons now, so i'm not sure how that's relevant really. 8th/7th/7th/6th. Talk about where we were for half the season all you want, but those league finishes do not tally with a team challenging for 4th place. Sorry.

I'm not sure why you're arguing, you think 12-18th is a better league position (y)

How come, neither of us were close to achieving what we wanted, so really we didnt challenge for it.

We challenged for half a season but in the end got dropped like sack of ****.

It wasn't like we fell away either, our form since january was much better than our form before january. It's just arsenal spurs and chelsea found gears we are nowhere near having. We were outclassed pure and simple.

This is utter nonsense. Why has one manager finished a side 6th on the league, and another after 4 years got them relegated.
Anyway, I keep asking the same question to people, a yes or no answer is preferable, do you see us improving on 6th place next season?

I really think you're coveting that cup win more than it deserves to be coveted. Martinez didn't win it because he was a tactical genius, they had some woeful games on that run against lower league opposition. They won it because the only top half teams they faced rolled over and died.

We did fall away because we didnt pick up the wins we needed, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs kept finding results but we couldnt quite keep up.

With Martinez, no. With Pereira, we have a half decent chance.
