2012/13 - 10 points off 4th place
2011/12 - 13 points off 4th place
2010/11 - 14 points off 4th place
2009/10 - 9 points off 4th place

Challenging for 4th, not really.

The final picture doesnt tell the true story, like all those people who claimed that we didnt constantly fight relagation in the 90s, you know yourself that most Seasons we had a glimmer of hope coming into the final few games.

If you think 3 wins isn't challenging for 4th spot, you've got something wrong with your calculator.

I'm surprised you're not giving harry a shout for manager, he's got an FA cup win too. He seems to fit your mediocrity criteria (y)

Because of his past transfer record. He is going to a much bigger club in Everton and we have to sign better players. I hope he won't go back to his scouting list at Wigan.

Its fair to say that Everton is more attractive to a certain level of player than Wigan wouldnt you agree? And on that basis, I see no reason why he would rely on his Wigan scouting network. If you came into a few bob, and were able to upgrade your Hyundai to a Masserati it's unlikely that you'd continue to let Mick the Oil from down the pub continue to tinker under the bonnet and do your annual service.

We could have finished 4th with 5 games to go, we still had everything to play for, if thats not close im not sure what is, we were 1 of 6 teams who could have finished in the top 4, doubt you could get closer, clearly at the end it wasnt to be, we picked up 2 draws away from Home at Spurs and Arse, which normally would have been decent results, sadly we then threw it all away at Sunderland.

I understand you have an agenda and yes, looking at the final table, it wasnt close, but lets not pretend that near the death it was very much on, we picked up wins at Arse and Spurs, beat Sunderland and the ****e and we would be packing our flip flops as we speak.

Its easy saying that though, we didnt lose 4th place to them teams because as you say we didnt have bad results, we lost the race with games like Sunderland and drawing at home to Swansea.

Nah. I'd say we were challenging for Europe all of those seasons.

We were challenging for 4th this season up until December, but then the other teams realised how good they were and that was that.

I'm starting to think you disagree with your self on a regular basis when no one is around.........

Three wins and also finished 8th. If you think that is challenging for 4th then you're deluded i'm afraid.

Saying finshing in the bottom half of the league is no worse than finishing 6th is not saying I want the former.

I want to win a trophy. Or finish in the top 4. 5th and no trophy is exactly as much a failiure as 17th and no trophy and 11th and a trophy is better than either,
This logic makes no sense. It basically legitimises failure. Clearly finishing 5th,financially and in terms of skills is a lot better than finishing 17th.
You should want to do as well as you can, in all competitions. Not complete disguard the league, aim to finish abovethe 3 promoted teams and try and fluke a trophy. Finishing below the likes of Stoke is a failure in itself.

Well finishing with 2/3 places generally indicates being close.

I'll come back to all this a bit later, when I've time, but just for now....you reckon City were 'close' to winning the title this year? Coming second isn't 'close' if you're umpteen points behind the winner! If a horse is second but 25 lengths behind the winner, you reckon thats 'close' ??

This make no sense whatsoever. You sir are depressing the hell out of me. I'm going to start swerving your posts before I top myself.

As I said, just wait and see the new signings. If you don't agree that is ok. I won't be fuming if others have different opinion.

And where have you had that from?

I want trophies, you want 7th place trophies, wheres your ambition?

I want to be striving for higher league positions. While the FA cup is nice, I'd rather be in the CL. That's where my ambition lies. Statistically there's also more of a chance that if you're placing higher in the league, you're more likely to win trophies.

No arguement from me on that count, I know where and when it was lost, but IF we got different results, it could have been different, we certainly had a chance, maybe not a realistic, but it was still possible.

Now your just being silly.
