Honestly for me Jordan Pickford doesn't even have a roof let alone a ceiling...

I do think he is capable of having games where he is outstanding but they are very few and far between and you never know when they will happen. The main problem for me is there seems to be a lack of trust in him from the rest of the team which is obviously a major issue for a goalkeeper.

I think he believes shouting, screaming and clapping at defenders every time he makes a save or the ball goes out for a corner is offering encouragement to them, when it’s just needlessly injecting panic into the situation. I thought we were finally past that phase in history where Peter Schmeichel had people believe that goalkeepers had to be raging lunatics and overly vocal to be any good.

one thought on last night..

Leeds free whipped in after about 35 mins last night. Good header, took a deflection and Olsen calmly tipped it over the bar.

Compare that to Pickford "save of the century" V Callum Wilson at the weekend.

Two saves of similar levels of difficult, one made very dramatic by a rubbish keeper, the other standard by Olsen who has decent fundamentals

Schmeichel could get away with it because he was actually good. Pickford raging and then letting in pea rollers from 25 yards out is not a good combo.

Not once last night was i worried about him making a mistake when they had corners and free kicks in dangerous areas, also not once did Olsen dive full stretch when the ball was going 10ft wide of the goal.

Schmeichel came with a pre-packaged Sky narrative of “well all great goalkeepers have to be a bit mad don’t they?” which seems to have fed into and influenced young English keepers growing up like Hart and Pickford. It’s a complete myth, I can’t think of a single top keeper other than Schmeichel that used to bollock his defenders throughout every game ever. As you said, being a calming silent presence is far more likely to help your defenders. The only time your defenders should hear from you is when you’re coming for a cross or organising the wall.

He made the bad pass that gave Leeds a couple of good cracks at goal yesterday, but he also made 2-3 quick, good saves in a 5 second span To save himself and us.

Should surely have cemented his place in the team for an extended run. Anyone see the howler by the highly rated Pope against City for the first goal? And the A Villa keeper's awful display against West Ham? The PL has plenty of average to poor goalkeepers. Stick with Olsen until there is a reason to do otherwise.

Should start until the end of the season as he fills me with more confidence that the ball won’t go in the net than Pickford does. Still not convinced he’s a top end keeper going forward long term in the summer but I wouldn’t be dead against signing permanent and addressing that issue the summer after, think we have 3 positions we need to address first but he’s done well with what’s been thrown at him so far

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that positioning. As for the ball being given away by him, it wasn't. It wasn't really the best place to give a pass but loads happened between that pass and the shots being saved including Doucoure receiving the ball.

His kicking is perfectly acceptable by the way, I notice a few people keep pointing out that his kicking is bad, it really isn't, it's just standard.

He is miles better than Pickford for me.
It's poor positioning, or it's a really poor dive if he can only just reach the centre of the goal for a relatively weakly hit shot from his 'good' position.
His kicking isn't as good as Pickford's. I know people love to hate him so he doesn't get credit, but his kicking is pretty decent.
