2024/25 Roman Dixon

I think when it’s all said and done, Dyche will be forced to roll with Garner 1st Patterson 2nd. Question is how long will that take and when will everyone be fit? Dixon is too much of a wild card but I find it hard to believe he could be any worse than Young or Coleman. That is more of an inDychement on how poor our planning was coming into this season.

I have no idea who Roman Dixon is.webp

Dixon is clearly not even in the top 5 of our options and fans have seen him in a very limited capacity so the calls for him to be given a go are kneejerk.

If he's viewed to be a worse option than Coleman, Young, Patterson, Garner, Holgate for the rb slot then i would be concerned about his ability to play at this level.

There could be a difference here mate he's viewed by Dyche to be a worse option, doesn't necessarily mean he's is. Could he have done any worse than Young on Saturday?

He definitely COULD have done worse yes. I'm not saying he would have done I have no idea but even though people often say someone couldn't do any worse its only a saying its not actually true things can always be worse! Like other people have said we all want to see new faces because we want to believe that they'll be great and make the difference but most of the time it doesn't work out that way unfortunately.

This thread would not even be here if Young wasn't predictably sent off again, he'd be a cert to start at Spurs.
As it is and IF Dyche decides to go with a traditional right back instead of 3 at the back the choice is playing a guy we've been trying to offload for years in the berth even though he's out of position, or give a chance to Dixon, the only professional right back available for Saturday. I'll bow to Dyche if he honestly thinks Holegate is better in that slot at right back than Dixon but that then begs the question WTF is Dixon here, I reckon it'd be Dych going all cautious again.

We seem to have this age thing with a large slice of the fan base. Obviously all saying what they consider the right thing to say "He's too young, it'll harm him" FFS. Same age concsious people on the other hand were saying ""he's only 24,give him a chance" when Davies had got an unbelievable 180 games under his belt and was never in a million years good enough for Everton.
Dixon is 20 soon and our only professional right back by trade available, it is lunacy not to start him. If not now then when? I wish other prem teams would follow our idea of not debuting any youngsters, it'd make life easier for us.

You joke, I'll bite. Realistically you can only expect him to last 55-60 minutes. Then what? It's more likely we'll see a back three.
I'd be less worried about a back three if we had the personell for it, especially on the right side.

Think Harrison would be caught out. Less bothered about the left as McNeil would do a job, as would Myko. I'd even be comfortable with Myko plating left sided CB. He's a better defender than an attacking threat, for sure.

Still leaves the prospect of Keane, M. in defence. Mind you, I recall Van Gaal sating he used a back three for the Dutch because he didn't entirely trust his available CBs. More cover.

Doesn't disguise the fact we desperately needa credible option at right back. Looking at you Thelwell.

Dobbin was capped a couple of times by England u20s and was getting minutes with us last season.

Iroegbunam is a fixture in the England u20s.

Dixon has been capped a couple of times by them in friendlies. It doesnt really mean much in the grand scheme of things other than he seems to be in the mix internationally so perhaps not far off.

Id like to see him start the Doncaster game.

Makes sense on the surface, but what he's saying is that my centerbacks aren't good enough, so I'll play more of them. Which doesn't make a lot of sense.

McNeil was awful at LWB last season the bit he played. I think Myko would play there.

I could see a scenario where Tarkowski, Keane and O'Brien are the back three, Myko at LWB. Then you could have someone like Doucoure at RWB or even give Dixon his shot there.

This is all wishful thinking though, I'm sure either Holgate or Keane will be the RB in a back 4.

I’m 56 and have been to hundreds of PL games so I’d expect Dyche to pick me ahead of him
