Romelu Lukaku

Well yeah, that's basically it. If Koeman tells him that he needs to be more aggressive and competitive in the air, he believes it.
Well he said it recently, Martinez was using him a s a target man and he basically said that isn't where he is good. So martinez turned into moyes and used the striker to perform a role rather than play to his strengths.

that is all i want from Koeman, to develop these players to their strengths. Dropping ross was a big one for me, finally a manager saying to him you have been crap, you aren't playing. And telling Rom, you are a goal scorer so go and be boss and score goals is going to be great to see this season.

Takes a lot of stick, rightfully for piping up when on international duty.

So on the other hand this is great.

It's amazing how quick he is for such a big guy and Clichy is no slouch.

Lukaku's touch and holdup play is improving drastically this year and with his other attributes there isn't a striker that comes close. A bit like Ibrahimovic who has size and the touch of a small man, Rom is also a freak and has size and pace of a smaller man.

It's concerning that some wouldn't have paid the £28m. As many argued would happen at the time, 2 years later, his market value is around double that figure.

Even Martinez got that one right. Funnily enough, iirc, a number of his biggest detractors on here didn't. One of the most important and easy decisions the club has had to make in recent years.

Let's hope he signs a new deal.

Thing is mate. We overpaid for him. Chelsea wanted as much as they could and we were the last ones left agreeing to pay whatever they wanted, hence the much bigger amount. Around 18 would have been a more fair price in the market and certainly if we had signed from anderlect we would have paid that.

However we were also buying potential so in a way the 28 million was fine in hand over because we knew we were getting a top striker. So it is a little bit of an odd one, we were ripped off on the face of it but then it is a bargain in the grand scheme of things.

Yep, that's fair comment.

At the point we bought him, £28m was more than he was worth - we paid for potential. Doesn't always work out, in this case it has done. What would his market value be now? I think we'd all be pretty cheesed off if we weren't talking at least double that figure - arguably getting towards treble it.

Agree. When put through on goal defenders rarely get back on terms with him. Invariably get's a shot off and I'd usually back him in those one on one situations.
