Romelu Lukaku

Why does it? Everybody knows this about him - he's an incredible goalscorer. That is not and never has been the issue some have with him, but at this point it's literally not worth explaining what the issues are as people simply cannot comprehend the difference between being an incredible goalscorer and an incredible footballer.

Because Tubes, he's an absolute beast who people want to discard like we could simply go and buy someone at a similar, if not better level. It's wrong.

The difference is we can hang on to an incredible goalscorer. If he was an incredible football he'd have left by now. As an incredible goalscorer we will lose him to PSG, if he was an incredible footballer we'd lose him to Real Madrid.

Again though, here's the thing - we can't buy a goalscorer at his level; but we can certainly buy a better footballer for that position which would benefit the team around him more consistently.

He's an irreplaceable goalscorer; not an irreplaceable footballer. His critics don't mind him at Everton - I certainly don't - but we need to play in a way that uses him as an asset, rather than a way that exposes him as a liability.

I'm firmly of the belief that we have a talented core squad which is too often undermined from the front because we attack with no consistency and fluency from game to game. So for me, we either bring in a second striker/playmaker to play alongside him and do the leg work, even if it's an inside forward from one of the wings like Lookman, or we get rid and play a different way to ensure consistent success.

There's a reason Lukaku gets shut down by top sides, and there's a reason we struggle in a lot of games and win by the odd goal - because nothing sticks up top bar the odd one game in ten that he goes berserk and is the total footballer.

The reason he is here is because goalscorers are overvalued in the modern game. Top clubs look at him and realise he's largely a liability who allows sides the only chance they have against them - counter-attacking opportunities. That's why he's still here.

And that's why I feel he damages us too. Consistency wins titles. There's no good having a player at Lukaku who can smash in four one game and be totally unplayable if for the next five games he doesn't turn up. Sure, he'll still score a goal, but for 89 minutes of most games he's invisible. You can't be consistent with that type of player leading your line; it's impossible. We could beat Chelsea in an FA Cup Semi Final with him smashing five in, then lose in the final to Sunderland because he doesn't turn up and the side has no Plan B.

There are no strikers better than him that we could bring in. He is quite literally the best we can afford and HE PLAYS FOR US. Why should we let him go? To get a "finished article? To get someone people rate from FIFA? No thanks.

He is an outstanding goal scorer and developing every week into a better all round footballer and striker. If you can't see that, then there's no helping you.

He's not even the best we could afford, he is way better than that now. We robbed Chelsea blind in the best deal we have probably ever closed as a club. He is probably worth three times our record breaking fee now. When it comes to scoring goals he is literally world class and I have never seen a player with any world class attributes play for Everton except maybe when I was a very young lad and saw the end of Southall's career.

I think that was true under Martinez but Koeman won't let us go forward without a plan B. Against Man City in the second half for example Lukaku was used mostly as a decoy to draw their defenders out of position whilst others scored instead.

The reason he is still here is because there are only around 5/6 clubs in world football that can afford him. When they need to replace their own star strikers, or whenever he is the finished article, they will come calling.

You have to do some serious contorting to claim that Lukaku "damages us". I don't know how anyone can seriously hold that opinion. Especially this season, the whole myth about him having nothing to his game except goalscoring is proving to be just that. A myth.

Quite sad really how some people won't realise what we've got until hes gone.

Have you seen city recently? There defenders do not need a decoy to run out of position. They do that all on there own

I dont think the posts that you were replying to were related to us wanting to discard Lukaku.

My post in particular mentioned what a fantastic goalscorer he is, but i questioned the actual media/opposition fans opinion of we would be screwed without him.

You jumped into hyperboil on the "CANT BELIEVE YOU DONT WANT LUKAKU, BEST GOALSCORER SINCE DIXIE LATCHFORD" bandwagon without actually reading the post properly

The reply to Tubes was not aimed at you, nor your post, simply the attitude towards Lukaku from a lot of people in our fanbase. Hold your horses on the bloodlust fella.
