Romelu Lukaku

Let's look at the facts shall we?

He scored 20 goals last year in a side woefully under performing. He has scored 6 already this season, and it's still September. Unlike a lot of strikers, the majority of these haven't been from the penalty spot.

His first touch isn't great, but all players have the odd fault. For me, he's the best striker we've had in years.

I don't reckon he's as good as Yakubu at slotting yet, but I may be biased because he had the greatest smile and goalscoring celebration known to man.

I loved the YAK. Shame his injury ended his career almost.

agree with all of this.

We cry out for a 20 goal a season striker and when the club backs the manager with one people complain about other parts of.his game! as far as I am concerned he can do what he likes if he turns in performances like that with goals.

I'll always say lukaku will be world class one day, here or elsewhere

When he's on form and given service he'll score more often than not. When he's not having a great game then that's when others need to step up and chip in with goals. I know it's early in the season but so far, so good.

I think he does well to score the goals he does in this team sometimes. The service can vary from non existent to very good depending on what the midfield composition is. When the service is good though he scores, what more do you want. Too many premier league managers are playing ultra defensive tactics, defensive players, and leaving one striker up top by themselves bemoaning the fact that they're not Aguero or Suarez and can't take down 50 yard punts, beat two men and curl it in from 30 yards. Most of their best chances come from set pieces. If you were a top striker there's no way you'd come to the prem. Aside from City and maybe Arsenal the service to strikers in this league is pretty awful.

to be fair, i think the swansea goal was a one-off. he never practices them and just hit it in on instinct. don't think he's even come close since. you are right though, he does have the technique - i think if he puts practice in, same with rom, they could be specialists. baines is still king though, and garbutt more down the line.

Id say he has practised them since seeing as hes become one of our main fkick takers

Came close against sunderland a couple weeks after that game like, nitpicking i know

Think baines and mirallas are still by far our best direct freekick takers. Garbutt likely has one in his locker

One MASSIVE flaw I keep on song with Lukaku is he stops moving when another player takes a shot. Rebound after rebound he could just tap in. It's youth, he'll learn but man, those completely open net chances he could have had if he just kept moving

Sometimes he looks disinterested and lazy and if the team is struggling it is no wonder that fans get frustrated with him.

I think the frustration is more to do with the very high level of expectation rather than a lack of belief in his ability.

I certainly do believe there are times when he doesn't work hard enough. When he is in the mood he is almost unplayable, but a really , really top striker needs to be in the mood more often than Lukaku. I think sometimes he is waiting for others to make things happen , he needs to realise that he is the player most people are looking at to make the difference.
