Romelu Lukaku

It's nice to be able to have a nuanced discussion about him now that he's out of the Everton bubble.

In some ways, I think he's done incredibly well to go as far as he has in spite of the glaring deficiencies in his game. There can't be many midfielders or forwards with worse technical attributes that have been sold for more than £10-20m, and yet he's had upwards of £100m spent on him at the age of 25. The issue now is that once Mourinho leaves and is replaced by what will almost certainly be a more progressive manager, Lukaku's wage demands will make it difficult to find another club that both can and will match what United are currently paying.

He'd have been fine back when everyone played with two out-and-out strikers, and would subsequently have three or four first team options on the books at any given time, but in the current climate he's going to struggle to find someone to pay top whack for a player who is simply a non-factor at the business end of major competitions.

I think he'll end up in Turkey sooner rather than later.

He is limited but there are about 8 teams in the world where he wouldn’t be guaranteed a first team staring spot.

In return he will offer them 20 + goals a season every season. No many players will guarantee that

I also feel that he simply doesn't convey the flair or electricity that we often associate with world class players. Yes he's a very reliable and capable finisher...

However, the likes of Aguero ooze ability and keep you on the edge of your seat as you anticipate some form of magic; their agility and persona only add to this.

I highly rate Rom as a finisher and genuinely think he'll score where ever he goes, but I do feel that perhaps he can sometimes be his own worse enemy.

He will never be a world class player as he simply doesn't have the other elements required and his perceived persona only helps alienate him further from fans.

Yet he's certainly a very good player, will continue to be one and undoubtedly the best finisher we've had in many a year - that'll be as far as it goes though.
still think the yak was the best finisher we've had in the prem era (born in 91 so all i've known)
some of the goals rom scored were far from perfect, even lucky you might say? The one against city in the 4 nil for example, any half decent keeper should have saved it really

I can't really decide what to make of his goal return. Padding it out against crap in the cups is fine at Everton, but I don't know what a club with title ambitions would think of a striker who has only scored 20+ league goals once in his career.

I reckon PSG is the best destination for him, he could actually win something there imo
I could see that being his next destination, but I don't think he'd last there.

They won't like what they see once they reach the point where they're playing real teams in the Champions League knock-outs.

His level right now is probably Dortmund or one of the big non-Juventus Italian clubs, assuming they would pay what he would ask for in wages. Not sure there’s an English club that fits him at the moment.

Should of took the pen for a hat trick. Didn't Rom miss a big chance for his hat trick, went round joe hart?

Fouled by Ben Mee. Ended up being penalised by Jon Moss for actually trying to finish it instead of going straight down. Then Mee denied him a possible one-on-one with a last man handball. Basically Mee got absolutely terrorised by Lukaku there.

Deserved his hat-trick today.
