Romelu Lukaku

He's always good against the poor teams, thats been his trademark for years.

The fact is top strikers do it in big games against big teams.

He never does.

He bottled the FA Cup semi big time, granted. But he got us there with two goals vs Chelsea in the quarters, scored vs City in the league cup semi, scored vs Boro in the quarters, scored home and away vs Kiev in the Europa League last 16. Scored to put us inches from the champions league vs Arsenal etc. Some of them individually brilliant goals, too.

It’s definitely a knock on him. Saying he didn’t do it in a lot big games is fair criticism. But to say he NEVER does is a bit of a myth that people perpetuate I think.

tbf half of those aren't big games, I'm a massive fan of his but i have to agree that he doesn't really get the really really big goals an aguero gets, but i don't see that as something to beat him with, he's just a world class striker, just a step below the best. United must have known this when they were buying him.

Nobody says that though, it's just that they are few and far between.

His single-handed demolition of Chelsea was one of if not THE best performances I've seen from a player at Goodison.

The problem is in the next ten other high profile games he'll be Anonymu Lukaku. Games like today are his bread and butter and pad out his stats.

They are the biggest games in our recent history.

I also think one criticism of Aguero is that he himself has underperformed in big games.

If you think Lukaku is struggling at united then it proves how big of a gap there is between us and the top club's now sadly.

Before today he had missed 3 sitters, had 1 in 3 and didn't finish well in there one big game vs Spurs. He scored 2 today but still managed to miss chances. I think people are rightly critical of his finishing so far this season. But to suggest Rom isn't still Top 5 in the league is silly. He will probably outscore our top 2 goalscorers combined.

Lukaku sprinkles the magic "2 goals against poor side" dust and all of a sudden he's a top 5 world class striker again.

Does anyone remember his 10 game goalless streak for us? Or the 7 and 5 game streak? I do... not because he didn't score - it's cos he did nothing else other than sulk and stroll. Without goals he offers nothing. He needs goals to cover for the number of times he loses the ball.

Firminho hasn't scored in 8 games for the RS but I don't see them wishing they had sterling or sturridge in the starting 11. Lukaku will be playing for a west ham or Turkish club within 3 years.

If he signs for West Ham that's 2, 3 or 4 goals he wont have on his total at the end of the season

The hate for lukaku is staggering

He is on course to be the second highest premier league goal scorer of all time by the age of 30.

Both viewpoints are correct, though - he obviously cannot play football and equally obviously, he lashes goals in left right and centre. We'll need to wait until he is 30 to see who really has the right of it, because he's not about to start playing football any time soon, nor is he going to stop scoring goals. So he either maintains his career at a CL outfit and wins things, or his value is reappraised and he drops down a level and won't win much - I wonder if this thread will still be here in five years time to see?

I don't think he'll sign for West Ham in the championship or League one when hes 28 more like a PSG or someone
