Romelu Lukaku

Alan Smith when he broke through at Leeds, was being talked up at the same level as Owen and Fowler. Fowler's injury problems weren't bad when he was first coming through, it was the knee injury in the Derby that done him, same with Owen and the hamstring injury he got at Leeds. Lukaku has a good record but if he cut out the laziness, improved the first touch and sacked off the off pitch nonsense then his record would be so much better
Alan Smith!!

You must be having a laugh you mate.

Nice to see someone replying 10 days after I posted that, and no I wasn't joking, Smith was a hot prospect when he came through at Leeds, building a solid partnership with Viduka hence why he got the move to United. Even there he started well then the leg break happened and he wasn't the same player

Comparing Alan Smith to Fowler and Owen, get real.

Might aswel throw Franny Jeffers in there too while your at it

To be fair to @Megatron, from recollection Alan Smith was talked about being a highly rated prospect and I know there was talk of him being a possible future star!

Clearly, Owen and Fowler outshone Smith with regards to talent and success, but he's right in saying he was 'seen' as potentially being able to reach such heights.

Obviously, that nowhere near materialised though. There's been copious players who at a young age have been compared to proven talents and it not happening.

Honestly can't believe people are going for that.

How many players are the next big thing and nothing comes off it, you could name another 50.

Just feel sorry for him now. He obviously shouldn't be starting games. Criticism should be levelled at Mourinho at this point for continuing to give him games.
