Romelu Lukaku

And yet Lukaku was banging in 20 goals a season at the age DCL is now. I wonder why that was?

He got 10 league goals in 36 games at Doms age, 15 in 31 the year before..... maybe we should put Dom on pen duty too eh.

Hardly out of DCLs reach..... but you know what... I don't care if DCL hits 12-15 every year... he will give the team more goals with his play.

It's professional football... not top trumps. Based on your logic Peter Beardsley must have been one awful player... only broke 20 goal mark once.

If you can't see what DCL brings to our team - the platform for the attacking midfielders to hit spaces that they never could do with lukaku up front then you need to open your eyes.... he pins 2 defenders and drags them about... bullies them, and it's no surprise how our attacking play has profited. Lukaku couldn't bully paddy mcnair or moreno ... every time he faced Morgan from Leicester he shrivelled up.

Not one Everton player has ever spoken fondly of lukaku upon leaving .. work that one out.

The same with Tony Cottee.... didn't care about the team.... Sharpe would be busy taking hits and helping the team out... Cottee just like lukaku wasn't bothered about anything but being 6 yards away for a tap in.

Agree about Cottee. All he cared about was his goals. He used to keep a detailed scrapbook.

I don't think it's that you don't care about things like pressing .... you just don't understand them.

At the age of 10 or 11 I would have thought lukaku was the best player in the world until I learned to understand it....

Tell me.... why does Klopp play firminho ahead of Sturridge? Sturridge scores way more goals....

It's a about roles and how you build a team. I understand he leaves a lot to be desired, but when he's in front of the goal he is more reliable. This Sturridge firmino comparison isn't remotely accurate to what I'm saying about dcl vs lukkaku. I hope DCL keeps developing if he becomes a good finisher he has amazing potential. I just don't see it at this point in time.

Its a shame DCL can't score goals. He'd be worth £100m if he could.
Which raises an interesting question.

Assuming by the end of next season, at age 23, DCL still possesses the same qualities but has not improved as a goal scorer, what price does a striker that isn't prolific at scoring attract?

Used to be a great sight Rom charging through the defence and sweeping the ball home.
I haven't seen much of that since he joined United.

Everything about firminho vs Sturridge is relevant to DCL vs Lukaku.....

Sturridge is one of the top 3 best finishers in the league along with aguero and Kane.... but like lukaku he lacks on so many other fronts albeit Sturridge is a skilful player, lukaku isn't. Both are lazy, can't hold up play, don't win challenges, don't press, don't assist their teammates....

Firminho has never scored more than 15 goals.... yet he is first choice centre forward ahead of a player who has nearly topped 30 in a season. Explain?

Allow me.... Liverpool's success is down to the ability of their front 3 to punish teams.... it all starts with firminho taking a central role... dragging the centre halves, showing for the ball - holding it up and bringing mane and salah into the mix.

Richarlison as good as a finisher as he is was not occupying the centre halves... the old "isolated" shouts were probably bandied around by some.... no - some players isolate themselves.

DCL at 22 is bullying centre halves - bullying them. Not getting stick in back pockets every game by second rate defenders like olsen, mcnair, moreno, morgan, dann, who basically stayed close to lukaku knowing that he will miscontrol the ball and if you don't allow him to face you up can't do anything. DCL gave VVD as tough a game as he will have had all season, the Chelsea pair didn't look comfortable all game.... arsenals lads were happy to get off the pitch in one piece.

How much would firminho cost? £80m?

Bergkamp, Gudjohnsen, di canio, bellamy.... loads of strikers who were quality weren't prolific. Their value was the fact that their inclusion meant the team scored goals when they played and strived when they didn't.

I'd honestly rather have a ten goal a season striker who is selfless and closes down as part of a team than a 20 goal striker who sulks and throws his arms in the air if a pass isnt inch perfect and jumps under long balls in case he gets clattered. Not in ten seconds.
It’s funny that the complete opposite of this was getting said about the likes of Marcus Bent, Andy Johnson etc. in the Moyes era. Players and Moyes used to get slated for ‘running the channels’ and ‘running to the corner flag’. The general consensus was that we needed a striker who would ‘stand in the box and score’.

We got that and more with Lukaku but people act like he was a failure for us. What’s the obsession with looking back on ex players negatively? I’ve seen Fellaini slated on here recently when he was no doubt our best player alongside Baines in his last few years here.

you'd rather have a striker who scores less goals than the other striker, utter nonsense that lad.
United Rom looks a shadow of himself maybe he's put too much weight on maybe United just don't play to his strengths but WBA and Everton Lukaku was an absolute banging striker.
