Romelu Lukaku's Expectations

I'd be disappointed if Lukaku signed a new deal and was loaned back to us again. I mean, it'd be great to get him for another year but it'd just bump his price up even more and if we didn't get Champions League next season then I don't think he'd stay beyond that.

I will play devil's advocate here mate, at the minute are team is short of say 4 quality players from a genuine title push or Uefa cup winning run once the loans are taken away from us.
IF we have 30m to spend, say Barry signs that's 1 spot down of a quality player, IF Lukaku is signed then that's likely 20-25m gone straight away leaving us with about 5m or so for 2 added players good enough for that goal, not likely to be able to get 1 in never mind 2, and more likely to get in say a Ince or Cleverley type who whilst 'decent' are no better than what we already have in the squad

Now say we sign Barry and Lukaku on loan again, and that 30m can now be used to buy for example Tadic for 8-12m and Markovic for 15-20m, the likes of Osman see less time on the pitch as the calibre of player ahead of them has just been raised significantly, osman or tadic, pienaar or Markovic for example is a no brainer who plays the majority of games, whereas osman or ince or pienaar or mcgeady isn't as clear cut.
Overall for next season the team would be far far stronger if we actually loaned Lukaku and invested the money into the other areas of the team getting it to a top top standard

Come next year we will still need a new striker, but that may possibly be the only spot in the team needing a starter brought in, the entire team will be in place and top quality, making any striker see us as a attractive place to play his togger, come next summer the Lukaku situation may be still an option, Benteke may have returned and proved his fitness, Batshuyi may be a more known commodity and less of a total risk that he is now, and the next big thing may be up and coming somewhere in Belgium, Holland, Spain etc that we can go for. Plus with the suggestion i made we could be going into next summer on the back of a ttile challenge, top 4 finish or Uefa cup win etc making us in a far more attractive position to get the player we need

Lukaku on loan is so much better for us, free's up cash for other areas.

Think i mentioned it a few weeks back as the what if situation that could actually suit us best mate, IF his value rises to out of our reach after the loan spell what it basically means is he has had a stellar season far surpassing this and likely has done it in Europe with us too, i can't see how if that happens and we have invested the 25-30 into strengthening the starting 11 - and as a bye product strengthening the teams depth too, that we won't be pushing for actually winning something this year.

If he has another season like this one then his value will remain relatively the same, so come next summer we can try and see if Chelsea have given up on him, If he excels we take what that form gets us and use it to go for another high quality player such as a Benteke who has proven his fitness again etc

Really would be the perfect win win situation for us like as for the coming season if we spent 30m and got him for loan it would be alike a 55m spending spree like

Drogba is his idol. He wants to be a Chelsea star like him ultimately.

Groucho like me do you actually think him resigning and being as part of the resign loaned to us for another year could be the best situation this summer as far as us as a team being in the strongest position to push on?

BlueStevon and Pabbers are bang on target here. Said the same myself a couple days ago.

We need more quality players than we can afford to buy, so it stands to reason that we should be using the loan market and free transfer market as best we can. And Martinez clearly knows this - look at the loans he brought in this year.

Spending £20m on one player is not clever, regardless of how good the player is, if you only have £30m to spend and you need four to six quality additions. Lukaku is worth £20m easily, but that doesn't mean we can afford to spend that amount on him, and if we do get him on loan then that leaves the bulk of our cash for a couple of players who we CAN'T get on loan, like Tadic.

Failing to consider our particular finances when drawing up a "wish-list", or ignoring the differences in financial strength when pointing to Liverpool's or United's spending in comparison to ours, is silly.

Loan lukaku another year

Buy tadic for 10m
Buy markovic for 20m
Sign barry
Loan dele
Promote ledson, browning, garbutt and lundstram
Loan toure
Loan kovatic from inter
Loan jovatic

That team would challenge for the leagu, uefa, fa cup for a 30m outlay
Thought we were only allowed 4 loans - 2 domestic & 2 international?

But in principal that would be a great team

Nah theirs no restriction on foreign loans at all mate unless I have read the rules wrong, domestic is limited to 2 and no more than 1 from each team domestically as well, looking at the chelsea loans they have like 6 or more at one team in Holland for example, may also be a limit on to how many loan players can play at one time - but that's speculation as not sure on that bit

Personally, I'd go all out for Lukaku permanently, if that doesn't happen and he signs a new deal and is offered to us in a loan deal, no thanks.

Enough of this loan temporary crap, sign permanently or we look elsewhere for a striker who commits and signs a long term deal.

Big advantage of loaning in Toure, Lukaku and Dele again as well is that Martinez now knows them, knows they will play hard, knows their personalities fit as well, kinda avoids the situation of too many new players comign in and having to make sure they all adjust

If he has a top notch world cup we wont be getting him on loan or for 20-25 mil.

Pointless though saying that mate, they aren't gonna sell prior to the world cup anyway, so same situation exactly, more likely is him resigning before and part of that deal being a second loan spell, much more likely than being able to sign him before the world cup starts

Yes all of them have seemed to fit in well with the rest of the team and haven't seem rumours of off field problems - squad harmony if an underrated asset in my view. One of the major differences for Man City vs last year.

And it is really hard to intergrate many new players, especially if they are from other leagues/cultures as well as Spurs have found out.

Interesting how it is going to work out for UTd as they will need quite a few new players and also Liverpool are rumoured to be going for a large clearout
