Ronald Koeman discussion

Can we please drop this silly flavour of the mouth nonsense. I'm sick and tired of every time we struggle the latest internet/media darling gets trotted out as our saviour. Holloway, Bilic, Howe and many others have all been raved about over the years and 99% of them fall apart within a couple of seasons. It all gets very tedious after a while. Eddie Howe has in no way, shape or form proved himself enough to justify us wanting him as Everton manager. The structure of Bournemouth and the entire setup is perfect for him, he's a big fish an incredibly small pond.
Flavours of the mouth are definitely the best though. Flavours of the nose and ears just don't do it for me.

As a matter of interest....why are you saying Holloway was trotted out as a "saviour"?

I have never heard anyone mention him as a potential Everton manager in real life nor saw anyone on here putting his name forward.

Someone might have done so but I never read it.....and I am sure whomever said it was deservedly ridiculed o_O

Now, I make you right about "flavour of the month" managers.

The problem with flavour of the month is that they all end up tasting the same.......Owen Coyle and Phil Brown are other good examples.

And I would include Mr. Ronald Koeman as a "flavour of the month" appointment as well :pint2:

Roberto Martinez certainly was.

I'd say Koeman proved himself more than any of them in the 2 years at S'ton Khal, wouldn't you?

I'm not saying he's immune to criticism (I was as baffled as anybody by his selection the other day for example), but he's far more than 'flavour of the month'.

No I wouldn't, Toff.

You yourself told me Saints endured a run like our current slump last season and that is not a sign that a manager has "proved himself" in my eyes :(

Sorry :(

Both Koeman and Moshiri agreed it would be three years before realistically his plans/their ambitions would bare fruit - the progression being improvement in squad/league position year 1, continued squad improvement/EL qualification year 2, viable contenders for CL qualification year 3.

Clearly if he is nowhere near targets by the end of year 2, then there should be a question mark over his suitability for a third year in the project.

I've heard nothing that suggests any different to date.

Makes sense I suppose.
The worry is we are utterly toilet currently.
Looks like this season aim should be to just survive till January, Buy a new team.

The best thing to happen to Ronald so far is having Butters banned from his thread.

Seriously though, I would worry about Moshiris football knowledge when it comes to the big decisions. Didn't he mention in that interview with Jim White that he looked at Klopp, Jose and Guardiola in the North East and decided we needed high profile also.

The thing is, those three are high profile because of their management careers, not because of their past footballing careers (ok Guardiola for both).

Unless it was just a meaningless soundbite, I would have to disagree with Moshiris categorization of managers and would worry if he was making the call if we did have to dump Koeman early.

Sorry mate, you're right.

How should I be thinking? what is the correct opinion please so I can carry on?

It wasn't on here that I heard the ridiculous Holloway shout but I heard it said a couple of times during Blackpool's one season in the Prem. Particularly after they beat the vermin across the park and yes they were both clowns who got ripped apart for suggesting Holloway.

Your possibility right about Koeman and definitely right about Martinez. This is why we must be very careful if Koeman gets the sack and make sure we pick the right long term manager for us.

It's pretty strange, as after getting rid of martinez who they clearly hated, you would have thought these players would be keen to buy into the new guy

I don't think the players aren't playing for him. They're just not good enough to adapt from one style to another.

As it is, we're left with this middle ground of toshness that he does need to fix.

Part of that is making simple changes that from the outside look like they would have a positive effect. We can't be certain they would though at this stage it seems they would. However, he may feel that we have more to lose at this stage as despite how tosh we've been we're still in the top half.

I've said before that I fully acknowledge that is down to the quality of the league in general, but it could be a factor playing into Koeman's thinking as it stands.

They were doing ok til six weeks ago. Then they lost interest and here is the result, a race to the bottom

The run was actually one win (4-0 over Arsenal) out of 8, with 6 defeats in total.

They then won 10 of their remaining 18 games, losing three and drawing three.

After the 1-1 draw at Goodison (where I remember afterwards as I covered the reaction that Koeman was visibly fuming that his side hadn't been clinical enough to win - which they should have done by far), they won their last four games.

The one caveat I would say is that Koeman instigated S'ton's good run to the end of the season by changing things around with his team selection - I'd like him to do the same with us now...

When you are eventually banned again (and that can't be too far off to be honest) and you write another letter asking for you to be re-admitted do you really think you are going to get my and other mods' support?

For someone who purports to love the site you make no effort to ensure you can remain here.

Imagine getting banned and writing a plea to the mods to allow you back on the site. It would be even more embarrassing if you had asked for the ban in the first place in a fit of drama.

Think what you want mate, I honestly don't care. Just try and have some original thought rather then follow the heard mentality and trot out the names of random manager's who are having a decent little run at nothing clubs.
