Ronald Koeman discussion

New players now doesn't look like that'll affect the outcome imo. I'm not looking forward to next weekend and haven't been since Dresden. We should've had players in at least by the week after the euros finished, now they're gonna have to slot in straight away.

after goin to dresden and watching the sort of football we played i got instantly worried.

complete lack of any imagination.

all i saw was rom, pointing and shouting out daft instructions.

we havent addressed any of it yet either.

True, but outside of Lukaku, we've purchased the likes of Besic, Mori, Atsu and Niasse. That's Kwik Save, we're (hopefully) now popping over to Waitrose (or a good supermarket to complete my metaphor)

And while we've been used to happy shopper brand beans we're now umming & aaahhhing at the goods on offer, while those a bit more used to shopping in waitrose are going in & grabbing the good produce and getting their business done.

Pretty soon the shop'll be shut, time to get a crack on.

Are they though? Who has vastly improved their squad with European elites?

I agree with you, but I'm holding on the fine until the end of this window, it needs a strong net spend. If we sell stones and purchase £50m worth of players that won't wash.

I'm convinced they are trying, I'm convinced we are after players that currently earn good money and are at CL clubs, it's not easy, the closer we get to the end of the window the more attractive we will become.

Ideal world we get business done early and the squad have a full pre-season together, like 06/07 we got Johnson, Howard and Lescott in early. We best Sheffield UTD, Spurs away (with 10-men) drew with someone then beat the RS 3-0 and Kenwright couldn't wait to get his fat face on TV to tell us how early business was key to the good start. But when you analyse that it was UTD's reserve keeper, A Palace striker and a Wolves defender.

I'm hoping the delay is because we are fishing in a more elite pond, the richest club in world football (Madrid) haven't signed anyone and UTD have took 3 weeks shy of a millennium to sign Pogba and they still haven't.

2nd September and no improvement them I'm with you, no doubt.
What alarms me is not so much the marquee signings but the bread and butter stuff of getting a very decent GK in and cover in areas we all know require it (especially up front and the FBs).

Inactivity on that has alarm bells ringing.

Sorry, yeah, I should have said retain Funes Mori and Coleman. Williams coming in (if he does) will add some backbone too. I'd get shut of Jagielka and Baines if Moyes came in for them. We need another in CD for when Stones goes. Galloway and Oviedo I'm not sure if they're the answer at LB so Id look to be bringing in a top LB and also some cover for Coleman, as Davies (who Koeman seems to rate there) is way too inexperienced to deputise. And the GK situation looks like a compromise to me, so that needs sorting too.

All stuff ^^^ that should have happened by now....and that's just the defensive side of things.

This preseason has seen us drift, not take control of our destiny. The summer window is a shambles.

So far......

So far, yes, but this inactivity has already had an impact that we can see out on the pitch right now. We look like we have a squad of players who still don't know whether they're coming or going or whether they have decent newly brought in competition to see off.

One week before the season starts and this is isn't good enough.

damage is there for all to see isnt it. we are not a team at all. no fluency, every play is forced. and if koeman thinks gerri is a premier standard striker then we have got serious problems.

like dave says, even with transfers in this week, it will not solve all the issues. the issues needed addressing 2 months ago.

why did it take an eternity to land koeman. thats where it all started off wrong. it should not take 6 weeks to land a new manager. we lost out on 5 weeks valuble assessing time.

the new regime hasnt exactly set the world alight has it.

Those 5 weeks you refer to players were away / euros etc. I am not defending anyone but we are being a little premature here. Just imagine if we win next week what do we do then.

About 2 months ago, before the EURO's there was a a obscure link to Joe Hart. What happens if Koeman knew/knows he wasn't gonna be part of Pep's plans and thats who we are waiting for? Listening to the ECHO podcast the other day O'keefe seemed pretty certain we were in for Schmeichel but the Walsh deal meant we were not allowed to sign players for 12 months from Leicester.

Totally agree and I believe as with his predecessor action speak louder than words.
All the bravado and chest beating when we were first acquired has not helped the situation at all and expectations have been lifted.
God knows as long suffering fans it was something we lapped up.
So even after all this I'm willing to see how the next few weeks pan out.

Bang on the money mate. I keep reading about decisiveness and I dont see it. You're right, the Koeman business dragged on. It was a sharp move and a determined one, but it ran a couple of weeks too long. I realise Southampton were an issue but that didn't stop Everton backing Koeman to prepare the way to make swift signings once it was completed. The trouble is (as per) the cash isn't there. We're are in recycling mode still.

The big thing the old administration got wrong was patronising supporters and stretching transfer stories to incredulity. That had to be avoided at all costs and it hasn't been.
