Ronald Koeman discussion

Bang on the money mate. I keep reading about decisiveness and I dont see it. You're right, the Koeman business dragged on. It was a sharp move and a determined one, but it ran a couple of weeks too long. I realise Southampton were an issue but that didn't stop Everton backing Koeman to prepare the way to make swift signings once it was completed. The trouble is (as per) the cash isn't there. We're are in recycling mode still.

The big thing the old administration got wrong was patronising supporters and stretching transfer stories to incredulity. That had to be avoided at all costs and it hasn't been.

The club actually havnt said a dickie bird about players have they?

I swear to God if Ronnie K doesn't get it sorted my stream will be getting closed down FURIOUSLY

For all it is worth, I've been supporting Everton for 40 years and this is my take on things.

Regardless of whether the new regime has a long term plan of steady growth, there was an opportunity for the club to build some real momentum/feelgood factor during this close season which is what everyone connected with EFC needed and what the general football community expected us to do. Instead we are left with a feeling of inertia which is starting to breed negativity with less than a week to go until the start of the season. That feeling of inertia was evident at yesterday's match among the players and the supporters. The final result and performance compounded that feeling. It was very much same old same old. You don't expect that with a new manager and a new owner.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Koeman is our manager rather than Martinez because we'd probably be in a relegation fight come Christmas if we hadn't changed manager. We all expected the club to make a statement of intent during the summer which hasn't materialized. Obtaining the services of Koeman and Walsh may be a safe bet but that is all it feels. This is why Evertonians' are crying out for good signings, because the appointment of Koeman and Walsh doesn't scream 'real ambition'. The feeling that Koeman is only here for the pay rise and Walsh for the reason of being nearer his family wont go away. These niggly doubts have left a void that needed filling with a serious show of intent on the playing side.

I know some of you will be saying it is only pre-season and we still have time to sign players but let's face it, we are left hoping again rather than it just being done and dusted. I'm tired of living in hope. The season starts in 6 days and we haven't signed one player that will improve the team. I'm sorry but that is just not good enough.

I'm expecting us to make at least one quality signing that will improve a position in the team by September 1st. If we don't then serious questions need to be asked in relation to the ambitions of the board.

Posted this in the transfer thread...
If nothing else we needed new signings to lift the gloom around the club that has manifested during Martinez reign. That hasn't happened and so the atmosphere around the club(certainly from a fans perspective) seems to be one of negativity.

On that basis alone, just having fresh faces for the fans to cheer against Spuds, could have completely changed the mood from flat to rocking. Just a thought.

I obviously believe we will sign players, but I think we have missed a golden opportunity to start the season buzzing. Unless we sign a few this week.

True, but it is also an assumption that we have money to spend. We have currently been outspent by Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, for context.
Only it wasn't an assumption that we had money to spend, Moshiri stated he was going to provide additional funds for transfers himself.

Where we sit in the net spend table in the first week of August doesn't matter a jot mate.

After seeing all the pre-season games, I desperately dismayed at seeing the same players who have performed abysmally in the last two year turn out the same rubbish again.
Matinez was deserving of criticism, many said we underachieved personally, I thought we overachieved and in the end were lucky to finish out of the bottom six.
No matter how good a coach RK is you cannot make a silk purse out of a pigs ear, individually and collectively we have a poor set of player, it is the case that our best player last year and probably so far this year is the 35-year-old Barry.
It looked to me that RK has not or cannot change the players we have, they have not the got the ability to change or adapt to RKs methods or style of play.
Now the two signings yesterday did ok, unfortunately, we need another 5 or 6.
However, which top class player would sign for us, I would not and I love the club, imagine Draxler after yesterday's debacle "yes Everton is the club for me" it is not going to happen.
I have this nightmare of being bottom of the league on 31st August, and hoping for the best for the rest of the season.
Having spent over 60 years supporting Everton, I tried to weigh up how bad we are and firstly concluded that not one of the senior players on view yesterday would not play in the great Everton sides.
Worse still as a team, they are only marginally better than the relegated side of the early 50,s but are better than the 90,s and early 2000 team.
I take a 200 mile round trip to Goodison, the journey home is going to be very depressing.
One bright not we have some really good youngsters, trouble is they are 12 to 18 months away.
Let us not have the rubbish about it is the managers not good enough.
The blame lays with the players.

Those 5 weeks you refer to players were away / euros etc. I am not defending anyone but we are being a little premature here. Just imagine if we win next week what do we do then.

not every single available player was at the euro's. or are we only going to sign europeans? those 5 weeks would have been invaluable to koeman, to get his back room team sorted, establish targets etc etc.

funny how man city managed to tie up big deals before , during and after the euro's. thats how we should of attacked it.

something is going on at board room level. the complete lack of any real business thus far is completly detrimental to our upcoming season.

Who's arsed about transfer spending tables?

It's about getting the players in to improve the squad, asap, innit? We've currently brought in two (With other players having left - the squad, it could be argued, is lighter) and the quality of them is relatively unknown.

My take on the preseason is that the damage Martinez done was more deep seated and extensive than we thought. The players we have don't make a good enough squad to get us a top six position. This tactics of the last two years was meant they have gotten used to playing in a certain way that now has to be changed. I think almost everything about our playing and training has to be changed.
As for attracting players, firstly we can never work out the real transfer targets from the paper talk but more importantly the Martinez era has left us as a club which top players don't think is an attractive proposition.
Koeman has a job of work to do, I seen a quote from Mourinho were he said that it might be better for Man U to buy 20 players and start again, that quote could have been said by Koeman. This season is going to be a transitional one, hopefully. I think the best we can hope for is 7/8, steady progress. If Martinez had stayed I believe we would have been relegated.
