Ronald Koeman discussion

I'm by no means a fan of Martinez, but I think that's rather harsh. You can't blame our pre sesin failings on Martinez. We haven't been attractive for 30 years. In fact, he probably attracted the most prestigious player in a long time in Lukaku while he was here.

That doesn't mean to say we haven't got A LOT of work to do, though.

The size of the challenge faced by our new manager and owner is huge.
They have to re invent the team, re invent a style of play, implement new processes at the club at all levels to drive continuous development and improvement.

Having watched our pre season games I have accepted that it is going to take some time before the players are in tune with Koeman's ideas. Yesterday's performance was typical of what we saw last season, and indeed the team that took the field were by enlarge last seasons choice.

The Stones situation has not been ideal for us, is he leaving or staying, I think the former is highly likely. It would have been ideal if this situation would have been resolved some time ago and the funds used from his transfer to get adequate replacements in.

It is inevitable that soon Koeman will be able to add some of his own choice players to the squad, but even then it will take time to adjust.

My expectations are that this will be a season of massive transition and success in the form of gradual improvement in the style of play, being more competitive, adding quality players to the squad will lead to better results and greater optimism twelve months from now.

to be fair the way we are performing on and off the pitch is enough to put most potential suitors right off coming to us.

like @bluestevon says, we need to show intent by splashing out a ridiculous offer to just one star name, an offer they simply can not refuse. it will make other players know we do actually have ambition and we are not just full of hot air.

im only suggesting we do this, as its what our new owner and board literally stated when they first arrived. they also stated none of our big players would be sold, which at present they are true to their word, but lets see how that pans out.

if stones and rom do actually go, and we sign no-one of any real significance, like a £40mil plus buy, then i would say this whole takeover has started absolutely disatourously.

When Witsel moved to Zenit they paid his buyout of 40m euros for someone who'd cost less than 10 a season before and they raised his wage from around 15k pw to around 75k, that was them making a statement, they also bought Hulk a highly touted player for more by the same method.

Sorry but anyone who thinks it is that difficult to make a statement signing when you really want to do so, is not looking at reality.

Money for us is apprently no object anymore, well the situation in reality shows it is very much so, otherwise we would hav emade the statement we inteded to make already by now.

Making a statement by the cheapest method possible seems to be the idea right now

Maybe a tad harsh but he has left a mess

Stop calling people who disagree with your point of view "bedwetters" it's not even amusing any more and just band wagon drivel spouted by people who spend way too much time on here.
I've never called anyone a bedwetter mate. You sure you have the right person?

I think it depends on the level of commitment from Moshiri. If he really is into this project as deep as he says and others imply then real change will come and it'll make the Kenwright years look like the nightmare it was. Anything short of full commitment though...looking for this club to grow it's commercial potential and develop a stadium to make our breakthrough...will end in tears.

Moshiri needs to step up and sink a lot of cash upfront into everton, if he doesn't then we've been sold a pup.

For me, the kenwright influence is still far too omnipresent.

Once he's out altogether then we'll see real, tangible change.

Sold a pup?
I used that phrase last night, and was ridiculed for my efforts.
Nice to know that somebody else at least has similar thoughts.

I do too in the respect that a fair few of the players he signed are a few we need to get rid of, and the morale of the team was rock bottom by the time he was fired. This current team has bad connotations attached to it because of last season, but it can perform.

It's just depressing to see the likes of Kone coming on.

When it comes to agreeing on what we should bid for certain players, I wonder how much say BK has in the final decision.

I couldn't give a toss about pre-season results - what I am concerned about is the lack of obvious remedying needed to this squad to give us a chance of starting the season well.

We have, without question, not gave ourselves the best chance of starting strong. Not even close.

We may have gave ourselves the best chance of having a strong season rather than just a strong start though.

Koeman may feel we have enough to win our first 4 or 5 games with what we have and would prefer to hold on for his top targets, like Hart, Koulibaly, Mata and Witsel. Which in turn would make a real difference to how our season pans out in the long term and would put us firmly on the top table.

Or he could panic, sign average to decent players for absurd fees like Jordan Ibe for 15 mill, Wijnaldum for 20+, Townsend for 14, Mane for 38, Wanyama for 15 etc and maybe make us better in the short term but they're not making any difference in the long term. They certainly wouldn't put as the top table again unlike the names listed earlier.

There's a reason the top players haven't
moved yet, as there is a lot if competition for them, but come deadline day I expect and think we'll see Everton have set themselves up in a different league moving forward to the one we've been used to previously.

Honestly i have no idea mate, but at some point the penny has to drop that if we want to raise wages by 1.2m per week then you don't do that unless you are buying a HUGE ammount of players on good wages or are planning to start to pay obscene wages to a fair few of the ones coming in. Right now we are doing neither - so why exactly are we looking to Sell such a valuable asset as Stones to allow something to be done we are showing no signs of needing or really wanting to do?

We might see a perfect storm like in Martinez's first season, when the transition of Moyes's solidarity and Martinez's attacking style made for a really good season. It could be like the same, but Koeman's style mixing with Martinez's!?

Or it just won't and we will be absolutely dire cause we can't attract people who can play football.

Did they sign any other elite players at the same time?? I genuinely don't know.

As it seems were after 4 or 5 of that calibre whilst we already have a couplehetr do we can't afford to go beserk and pay double or treble the price for 1 players worth.

It's ok if you have 1 or 2 players in a weak league playing and being paid way above there station but Everton are looking to have far more. We also may feel we're close to closing these deals anyway and unlike Zenit, we don't have to pay 500% wage increases to attract them to a nothing league.

We may be close to getting them anyway.
