Ronald Koeman discussion

Well, taking Bournemouth into the PL and keeping them up comfortably is arguably a much bigger achievement than either Walker or Martinez managed I think...

But, I kind of agree with the principle.

If he goes on to establish Bournemouth over the next 2 seasons as a PL team then by all means, he'll have proved himself though.

As you said, struggled badly at Burnley as well.

Walker did nearly win the premier league with Norwich and then had a decent run in Europe with them.

Think he's been a bit harsh on Howe, good manager.

I was certainly one of the people ridiculing the idea of Eddie Howe being our next boss and I will continue to do so because it's an absolutely ludicrous suggestion. Eddie Howe is simply the latest managirial flavour of the mouth for the footballing hipsters. He's totally unproven outside of his comfort zone in Bournemouth were he has zero expectations from the media, the fans or the club itself. He's never had to deal player power because at Bournemouth if you cross Howe you'll be the one out on your ear. Howe is the star at Bournemouth. He's a big fish in a miniscule pond just like Mike Walker and Roberto Martinez were before coming here and both of those clowns had more success then Howe has ever had.

Think you are being a bit harsh on Howe myself, but you could be right in the end.

Sometimes you have to take a risk on potential with managers, it's not as if we can go for the likes of Jose, Pep etc.

I was being unfair with the Walker comparison (nobody is that bad) but I can see a lot of parallels between Martinez before his arrival here and were Howe is now. Maybe in a few year's he'll prove himself more but he'll have to do it somewhere other then Bournemouth before I'll be convinced.

I might be being slightly harsh on him but he's totally unproven away from his comfort zone and until he does the business elsewhere I wouldn't want us going anywhere near him. There are plenty of proven quality manager's all over Europe who would do a better job then Howe would imo. We don't have to talk silly manager's like Pep and Jose who we all know wouldn't happen.

Think Bournemouth were 22nd in League 2 when he took over. You have to say that's better than 'flavour of the month'.

Your other points may well be correct, only time will tell I suppose.
He's done a very good job at Bournemouth I'll not deny it but he'll have to do more to prove himself and do it away from his comfort zone before I'll be convinced he's the real deal.

Jose would have come under the same bracket at Porto, Pep at Barca as well.
I'm not convinced Pep is actually a good manager. He's had everything handed to him at both Barcelona and Munich, he's not going to be just handed success over here quite so easily so let's see how he manages the city job long-term. If Howe goes on to do a fraction of what Jose did at Porto consider me a believer!

I wonder how pep and Jose would get on managing someone like Bournemouth? They have been very privileged to work at the best, biggest and richest clubs where its nearly impossible to finish lower than 2nd. Id love to see how they would do.

Jose would be (or would have been, he may be past it now) fine. His style of hardworking defensive football would stand any team in good stead for preventing the drop, and I think he'd get a team to punch above its weight.

Pep would get relegated...and possibly win an F.A. Cup. His style and idealism would lead Bournemouth down Wigan's road.

Sweet Jesus, step away from the crack pipe.

Pep is not a good manager?? The whole football industry must be completely wrong.

It wouldn't be the first time the whole football industry was wrong about somebody. In all seriousness when has he ever had to actually work for anything as a manager in his entire career? He's always been provided with limitless funds at both Barcelona and Munich with world class teams already assembled. He's absolutely a prove world class coach but I'm still not sure just how good he'd be doing a manager's job with the same constraints that 95% of manager's do. Only time will tell, Man City is the first job were it won't all be handed to him and he'll really have to work for success.
