I'll be honest I'm not a fan of the Europa league, at least not until the knockout rounds.

If we end up keeping the likes of Gibson and Mccarthy, they can play in it along with the kids and if we get far, then take it seriously.
In which case it's top 4 or nowhere then? I disagree completely. Doing well in Europe energises the fan base, promotes the club abroad and gives us another chance of winning something.

I hate it when clubs and fans don't take the Europa league seriously. We slog away for 10 months to qualify for europe and then people complain about extra games and managers play the youth team. I don't get that at all. I loved the years when we would regularly qualify for the (then) UEFA cup. Great night matches at Goodison and the odd european away day.

Agree and it's not like we are spoilt for choice. I wonder if people would have like the European Cup Winners Cup in '85, that was deemed the lesser of the 3 at the time.

I see the Europa League differently mate. I see it as an opportunity for us. What do we compete for all season if we aren't aiming for the Europa? The Europa League is a massive opportunity that only the Premier League teams acts all snobby about. I'd take it very seriously if we got in and make it a big priority. Winning the Europa would be more likely to attract players then season after season of sixth place. Plus the trips to Europe following the blues are just ace!

Spot on this.

I'll argue with that

The ECWC was the 2nd in importance of the three

For example, if you qualified for both the UEFA Cup and the ECWC, you went into the ECWC as it was the higher-ranked competition

If you qualified for the European Cup and the ECWC, you went into the European Cup

Personally mate when it's clicked this season I think we've looked good.

We've played with the 'robust' tenacity we had under Moyes but also the quick, incisive style present in RM's first season.

However, it hasn't clicked enough - yet. I think it'll come together though, and that process will quicken up if we have a good window.

We've done this about three times in nearly 20 games.

You are so 'half glass full' aren't you toff.

I admire that, and as you know I think you're a good poster.

But every now and then, things like this make me want to stick my feet in a blender.

Just remembered the winner qualifies for the champions league.

I'm all for it, just wish it wasn't so many games to begin with.

The format of the competition is it's biggest fault. They need to make it a straight two legs knockout competition without all the champions league failures dropping in and you'd find people less likely to talk down about it.

Oh god I forgot about the champions league teams dropping in - what a joke, it's like prem teams who don't make it far in the FA cup going into the johnsons paint trophy.
