Ronald Koeman discussion

Wow. Quiet a change of tone from his predecessor. When Roberto first came so many embraced the new positive and ambitious spin. When the reality of decline set in perceptions changed.
RK's Moyes like lowering of expectations is now seen as refreshingly honest. How long that lasts depends on the results.

I don't think he's lowering expectations, he only accepts the best. That is clear from his anger of the players not being fit and not having transfers done quicker but he also understands the transition was made difficult this summer.

Koeman is a winner by any means. In his first season at a club he qualifies for Europe or he wins a trophy. I'm sure he wants that to continue here.

Saying your team are 70% fit before the opening game of the season is just offering an excuse to them...and we know these jellyfish dont need much of an excuse to clock off.
At least it's probably honest. Martinez would have said they were in phenomenal shape even if they were each 15 pounds overweight.

Spurs is a write off tbh, no new signing's and probably no lukaku or coleman with a half fit Jags. A joke of a previous season/transfer window in all honesty so far.

Wahey, the club fixed it

that's some straight talking schnizzle there by the boss. He's got high standards and hopefully he's finding out the ones who are up for the fight and the ones who need to be shipped out sharpish.

Too many players have had a free ride down the years at this club and haven't pushed themselves that extra yard to be winners.

Grim news about Pennington that as well.

Happy with that, no nonsense, telling it how it is basically giving the players a kick up the arse. Lets be honest, 90% of our players were battered after 60 mins last year, they have been unconditioned for 3 years its no surprise how unprepared we are. Apparently Lennon talking about being in for double and triple sessions, and rightfully so - high pressing and intensity, if we aren't ready Koeman won't be happy.

Couldn't be bothered listening to more pie in the sky crap, i wanted honesty from Martinez, and that presser was everything i did want.

Also, happy with the squad comment and the additional players, think we will definitely be bringing more in.

Great post Chaz

We were crying out for 'honesty' last season. Now we've had it we don't like what it tastes like it seems!

Agreed. There's a lot of hypocrites on the forum and slackers in the squad.

Koeman has put them on notice. SHAPE UP. OR SHIP OUT.

I think some people don't realise the massive task Koeman was left with after the Martinez debacle. Emery probably ran to PSG screaming when he saw what he had to work with. The team was so unfit last season it was unreal - Koeman is moving us from a slow paced passing game to a high pressure pressing game. To get the fitness levels required will take time. I just wish people would get off the club's back - we should be getting excited about the future - not kicking off because it isn't happening "right now".

Completely agree.

Is it happening tomorrow then?

Not sure why he had to reveal the percentage of fitness levels, it is a silly, subjective thing anyway and should remain between him and his coaching staff, (unless it really was a pre-match excuse - very much looks like it). The bigger concerns are his cagey answers to the questions surrounding Lukaku. Obviously nothing is settled in that area, so we start the season on Saturday with a very uncertain attack line up.

Unfit is unfit. Why are they unfit? He's had them 8 weeks.

Even if they are I dont want that broadcast to Spurs.

6, not 8. Half of them he's had for 4...

Also, it wasn't to do with general fitness for one game, it was in terms of the season on a whole and how 'physically prepared' we are to play his style...

Imagine writing off the first game of the season. New manager, a few new players, young talents ready to step up, a full house at Goodison.

Can't be arsed with our fans sometimes, or maybe it's just modern football fans, who apparently rely on transfers as much as they do oxygen.

Reverse psychology?
