Ronald Koeman discussion

Interesting to read a lot of us say top 6 is over and no chance. Do you think Spurs and co are saying the leagues over? No I don't think they are. 7 points is not a lot but then we are Everton

After Sunday, to me, it seems a step change has happened at the club. New signings, Davies emerging, players getting Koeman, dunno. But that performance, albeit against a wilting City side, will send shock waves through the squad.

Spurs and Chelsea are the only 2 of the Sky 6 who look in any way set for some dominant runs. United a close 3rd. The rest are either over achieving, (RS imo), or fathering unhappy players. Arse, City are a busted flush, in relative terms.

Which all means we will be 8th.

City had David Silva playing yesterday, one of the best play-a-makers in the game + 70% possession, how did that work out for them?

Ronko adding a cultured no. 10 to the ranks would give us other options but it's not necessarily the answer. Sometimes you've just got to outwork and outfight the teams that sit back, basically just beat them in to submission.

This. Like the winger, the out and out number 10 is becoming redundant. Fullbacks now are expected to do a wingers job. The fact that we haven't even sniffed around a quality number 10 suggest it isn't a priority.

City had two fine 10s in Silva and De Bruyne and they looked ordinary. Even no.10s will not pick a pass through the defence if it is immensely well drilled and 10s aren't always necessarily the answer.

The no.10 position could be picked up by one of the central midfielders, like Barkley did yesterday. Or by one of the forward players. For me, if you play a winger or no.10 and tell him to stay in that position it's a complete waste. Players have to be dynamic these days and I'm glad we are after players who are, like Lookman.

I think that Lookman could become a key player for us. Pacy, lithe and with an accurate shot and an ideal foil to the big man who must get very frustrated that his knock downs and little (& heavy) touches come to nothing.

From what i have seen so far - one good thing about Koeman is that he is not stubborn. Yesterday i saw two prominent managers that refused to change things that were going absolutely wrong. Guardiola playing Bravo week in and week out and refusing to admit his mistake astonishes me. Mourinho's not subbing Pogba yesterday was also a huge display of stubbornness although the boy was really awful.
So far I haven't seen that with Koeman. I hope he keeps on like that.

lol

We just have to keep within touching distance.

They all have got to play each other and they all have Europe returning (bar RS and Chelsea obviously).

Never know.

Personally I reckon we'll end up where we are now though, around 5 points behind 6th, but around the same clear of the chasing pack.

Still buzzing after yesterday! He's made me excited to watch us play again. This season was never going to be plain sailing but results/performances like City and Arsenal show that we can mix it with the top teams. Although we can't suddenly rely on him, the added movement in midfield from Davies (and hopefully Schneiderlin) seems to be bringing more out of Barkley and therefore Lukaku. To break down teams who sit back against us, this movement is vital to creating the space we need.

4 points taken off City. 7 points taken off City/Arsenal/Utd so far. We need to make this run between now and the end of Feb count.

Can't get too excited, because this is Everton, but our improvement is becoming more evident
