Ronald Koeman discussion

How on earth can Everton have had two errors that lead to goals? Lol. These stats people must have a very strange system. Any idea what the criteria is, because it sounds like the only criteria are own goals and suicidal back passes.

Call me old fashioned but balls played into the box and not defended are errors. Or maybe not these days and goals conceded that way are shrugged off as an act of God? I bet there isn't many managers who see it that way.

Errors leading to goals encapsulate only shooting oneself in the foot a la back passes etc.

You can say what you want about Koeman, but I was noticing that they have more stats on the EPL site these days and being a complete stats nerd, tool a look at Everton's over the years to see if I could see a change in style from Moyes to Martinez to this year (most of the stats only start in 06/07). The one that stood out for me the most was "Errors leading to Goals"

07/08 - 4
08/09 - 4
09/10 - 5
10/11 - 6
11/12 - 5
12/13 - 7
13/14 - 6
14/15 - 15
15/16 - 10
16/17 - 2 (on pace for 3)

As reference over that period Man United have averaged 4 per year (min 2, max 6) while Arsenal have averaged 8 per year (min 5, max 14). RK's done something right.
It's the fear of giving away a goal, and getting that big pie-head nutting them in the changing rooms that keeping individual errors down

Well, assuming the criteria used by the Stattos was consistent across every season, 2 seasons tend to stick out a bit.

You play expansively that can happen if the defenders aren't concentrating. If they are concentrating them you get the figure from the 2013/14 season.

I thought it might. It's pretty limited. It also doesn't tell the whole story in that it reports only mistakes punished.

But the stat which shows that Everton last year played considerably more long balls compared to this one isn't a stat you could dispute is it Dave?

So how do you reconcile that with your criticism about koeman being a long ball merchant, when in black and white its shown last season we did it far more?

Whatever. Not going down that road. Again.

Things seem bright and happy atm it seems. Confident team, decent little run tucked away. Some wobbles at the top table.

Like I said a few days ago, see how we are sitting at in mid March after these seemingly "winnable" run of fixtures.

But we just know, dont we.

Expansive - is that a new term for playing more long balls David?

Stats? It'd be great if you could provide the evidence like instead of following me around accusing me of ignoring it.

Maybe the men behind the stats are just out to get Martinez?

There's no way a defence organised by him could be that bad..

lol

This re-iterates how much we've progressed, especially how we've kept great goalscoring form on top of the strong defence.

Let's be honest though no matter what the criteria we'd have had less errors leading to goals this season than the last two. That's obvious.
