Ronald Koeman discussion

Whatever. Not going down that road. Again.

Things seem bright and happy atm it seems. Confident team, decent little run tucked away. Some wobbles at the top table.

Like I said a few days ago, see how we are sitting at in mid March after these seemingly "winnable" run of fixtures.

But we just know, dont we.
We know how quickly things change. I'll stick with my point earlier today that no one here knows what a Koeman team looks like at Everton yet. That'll unfold after the next transfer window and the games up to next Christmas. All we can do so far is say what has happened in the short term. IMO that's been an abandonment of a needless long ball game to one that makes proper use of the players here presently...something I expected a manager billed as pragmatic would have done from the outset.

Oh yes we do. I despise the term "winnable" for that reason, it just happens every time when we think we should steamroll teams.

Maybe the men behind the stats are just out to get Martinez?

There's no way a defence organised by him could be that bad..

lol

This re-iterates how much we've progressed, especially how we've kept great goalscoring form on top of the strong defence.
No mate, no tin foil hats here. I'm just looking for these so called stats...which I notice still havent been furnished.

Funny that.

Like what I am seeing now.

Let's be honest though no matter what the criteria we'd have had less errors leading to goals this season than the last two. That's obvious.

No doubt. And what does it tell us? Probably no more than we don't have that plant pot defender John Stones Cruyff turning into trouble every friggin game.

As we all our. It's a blessed relief to see some football at last. Let's acknowledge though that the performances and results are an extremely short run thing from about mid-December to beginning of February. It needs to be the norm and not a streak as per the opening 5 games of the season.

Many on here were disappointed not only with the results in the autumn but also the style of play deployed by Koeman in the autumn. Furthermore you have been one of his most vocal critics, but you were like others, in that you prepared to give Koeman the time he needed to turn it around. In defence of Koeman, maybe he was too loyal to certain players and didn't have the personnel to employ his high tempo, pressing style of football. The emergence of Davies coupled with the quality of additions in schneiderlin and lookman have given the team a much needed boost not only in numbers but quality. Let's hope the recent upheaval in results and style of football is replicated for the rest of the season.

With the exception of Chelsea, Spurs and more recently United, most of the top 7 or 8 have been patchy. We play in the most competitive league in world football, pretty much any and every mistake on and off the field is punished, then magnified. A little composure, perspective and an eye on the long term is the order of the day.

I keep reading this and from a distance Dave it could be that this is a note of cautious approval

He gave all the players a chance, the 1s that werent up to it were shown the door, now he has a core of players who can play football.

Morgs, Mola and the boy Davies have all come in and allowed us to play a different way.

Ronny himself said he doesnt tell the players to hoof and he was quite angry that they did it, hoofball is not how Ronny likes to play, I told you months ago, direct, fast paced attacking football, from the number 9 to the number 2, high energy pressing, its taken him 7months to cleanse the squad, now we are starting to see Ronnys Everton, marvel at it David, take it all in, the School of Fusball.

This ^^^^ is what I'd cauction against: the declaration that everything is sorted out and on track and that Koemans style is on show and succeeding. It's not safe to assume those things.

Everything isn't sorted out. That defence still has the ability to Keystone Cops up a game...as it almost did last Saturday.

Koemans game is nowhere near on display here at Everton. It's presently an almalgation of what went before and what will come to be. Save your conclusions on "how Ronny likes to play" until next season, because this season tells you nothing in that respect.
