Ronald Koeman discussion

So did 5th. Your missing the point Dave which is in 9 months the progress is very clear if we continue then it's realistic within 2 years to be genuine contenders for CL. 12 months ago we were fearing a relegation battle.
Disclaimer: Parts of this statement may or may not actually happen.

Actually, bearing in mind the naff pre-season we had due to the problems in the transfer window, added to him having to start the season with half of the uber gash left to him by his predecessor, I would say he is doing rather a splendid job myself.

He has improved the side defensively and offensively in half a season and that is undeniable.

He has offloaded all of the absolute pap left to him and brought kids into the side whom he has given confidence to.

He looks like he has finally able to get the best out of Barkley, who we all wanted to be our talisman but was going nowhere due to two years of being completely mismanaged.

He has installed discipline back into a side that looked an absolute rag-bag outfit, remember Anfield last season and Leicester away? We were the laughing stock and totally all at sea!

So when you weigh it up like that, he is exceeding the expectations bestowed upon him and then some more.
You're comparing what he's getting out of the squad to one of the worse managers I've had the misfortune of witnessing at Goodison. He's done what any decent manager would do, organise the team defensively & ship out the dead wood. There's nothing remarkable about this. On the evidence so far he's doing a decent job. If he had us in the semi-finals of the FA cup and we were challenging for the top 4 then I'd agree he was doing a splendid job so far.

Back on topic....serious question....do you think Jagielka, Baines and Mirallas are good enough to be in a first 11 that takes us beyond where we are now?
For me, absolutely not. Mirallas isn't good enough to start in the current 11 never mind an improving one with stiffer targets. Baines and Jagielka both peaked 2-3 seasons ago.
Its alarming the rate of decline of jags. He's made more mistakes in the last 12 months than probably during his whole Everton career. Baines' ankle injury has meant he's certainly 'lost' something from his game, he's always been a competent defender, but an excellent attacking footballer. I think he's lost some of his pace die to the injury and both facets of his game have suffered accordingly. Strange one with miralles, for whatever reason the lad just flatters to deceive. I'd thought he'd really kick on under koeman, but for whatever reason he hasn't. He doesn't have the consistency needed to play for a club with champions league aspirations in my eyes.

So basically, he would have to be having the best season in over 25 years for you to say he was doing better than decent?

Sound! ;)lol

Despite him being a bit more direct I've actually much preferred the football this season in all honesty. We've seen glimpses of what Koeman wants us to be and I think that we could potentially play some very good football under him in the future when he has everything set up how he likes
As illustrated by rom's volley against Bournemouth and the build up play for our third goal yesterday. The signs are promising, come august we will see 'koeman's team' and I think we're all excited by that prospect, due to the progress made since the turning of the year.
