Ronald Koeman discussion

Made some poor subs in Barkley and Mirallas, but my word I did not think we would miss Coleman THIS much. I knew we would miss him, but we are a shell of what we were down the right. Holgate is actually a solid passer, but put him in a situation where he needs to stretch the field and he is clueless. This reaffirms my thoughts that Holgate is 100 percent a CB and not a RB. He's good defensively, but we need him to do more.

Was thinking that watching both the last two games.

There is a huge hole on our right flank where Seamus used to be.

I honestly thought Holgate would be better than he has been offensively. He doesn't have nearly the same guile in the position as Coleman does and it is hurting us in that sense. He has a good pass on him and he is good with the ball; it just seems like he doesn't know what to do with it in that position.

he's a bit odd, this was the same when we were on our bad run, he goes all ultra defensive and now we're down to their bare bones because of a horrific injury list he's gone back to it because he doesn't have confidence in the squad as a whole .... but i don't recollect him doing this at southampton with a much weaker squad. I thought he got most of it spot on today, but we were utterly lousy in the final 3rd, i know united missed some chances, but we could have been walking away with a 3-0 victory here if our attackers didn't get sh*t scared every time they got near their box.

It was annoying taking mirallas off just as he was getting more dangerous and it backfiring and then making the same mistake with barkley, just as he was starting to find loads of gaps, but both were wasteful all evening. I can see why people would say koeman's the reason we didn't win because it was very moyesesque in inviting pressure, but we only have ourselves to blame. The back 5 and gueye and barry's shielding was terrific for 93 minutes, but we were massively let down by the front 3 who continually fluffed great openings, that's why we need heavy investment in that end of the pitch much more than we need it at the back.

It's okay to be critical of Koeman, even if you rate him.

Even the best managers make mistakes.
If only it was that simple.

Fact is, those desperate to criticise are leaping in. Absolutely no level headed posts coming from the critics whatsoever.

As seen when his record V 'big teams' is being criticised.

koeman needs to get mirallas, barkley, lukaku, lookman, calvert-lewin and any other attack minded player in the squad in one room. He needs to spend 2 hours on video's showing them the mistakes they made in that game when on the counter attack.

he needs to then get them on the training pitch and get them to learn how to lay the ball off at the right moment.

he needs to show them how to manipulate defenders movement

he also needs to tell them that this is a team game. teams help each other out. if you see someone who is in space and has a better opportunity to score then lay it off.

far too many times we have players being greedy and messing up counters.

in a nutshell everything you have said is blatantly simple yet 100% correct and I'm sure it has happened numerous times but they just ain't got enough braincells and game know how to actually do it consistently enough

Different type of player altogether.

Not a modern full back in the style of Seamus or Baines at his best.....bombing down the wing, making angles and worrying defences.

Holgate seems more like a centre back to me.

The only reason to bring DCL on I imagine is to see if he is capable at this level.

Win tonight and we finish 7th.
Draw or lose and we finish 7th.

The season is over so I have no problem if Koeman wants to run the rule over Pennington, DCL etc ahead of a big recruitment drive come June.

So, we should test players, against our historically, two biggest rivals and not bother about the result?

The fault lies with the current and previous manager for this IMO.

Our attacking options all fall under a mix of these categories - young, inexperienced, crap, average, headless chicken or no footballing brain. You can take one or two of any of those for all our attackers.

It annoys me that we have no footballing nous and experience in that final third after 8 windows under two managers.

I'd like to kick them both in the balls for this glaring error.
