Ronald Koeman discussion

One was very early doors in the season when he and the team hadn't gelled well together. The other was the catalyst for the run of home victorys since. Nither were good but it makes no difference if you lose in the third round or the final. You win sweet FA.

sound logic

I would give it a 7.5 /10.
We have finished as high as the ability in the squad would allow. Considering the long term injuries to Bolasie, Coleman and Funes Mori that is no small achievement.
The manager certainly did not take the job to work with the squad that was already in place at Everton. January proved that.

RK is a manager that can get results and with better players in the squad we should be able to get even better results. He has given academy players their chance. However, we have seen that you can't just throw three or four young players into a team and get results. They must be introduced slowly and at the right time. A player like Davies is a bit of a freak and is the exception rather than the rule.

Next season...no idea yet as it all now comes down who we buy and who are sold.
Four or five really good players onto the current squad could see us challenge for the top four...we are probably only an extra two wins away from that this season...it is certainly attainable.

We need a quality goalkeeper, a centre half, a centre forward , cover at left back and I believe we need a more creative midfielder/striker(Rooney?).

This summer Kone will be leaving and I don't see Valencia being kept, I think Funes Mori will leave as well.
Coleman and Bolasie will miss half of next season and Besic still has to have a sustained injury free run.

It is amazing how the entire squad will have been reshaped in such a short time

good post mate and I'm in agreement. Days like yesterday really wind me me up because it just looked unbalanced from the off and a tendency to be more concerned with them than us. But I think if we get the right players in then the basis is there for us to be a formidable side in iur own right. Yesterday was the first bad performance at home in a long time and overall it's been a decent season in the sense that EL football is secured already.

Seems to be getting his tactics wrong consistently against the better quality opposition.

Without proper cover in schniderlin or McCarthy the decision to try and emulate Utd's man marking of Hazard with Gana was a disaster.

Koeman's tactical capabilities appear more limited than I first thought.

Apart from City and maybe Arsenal at home we've been tactically deficient against better opposition.

Maybe he will get it right with an improvement in the squad, hopefully anyway.

Dafuq is this.

Gana's man marking worked like a treat. Pedro it's a screamer and the game changes completely.

People acting like we got a footballing lesson need to have a sip on reality

Mac.
After sixty minutes, before the first goal, did you still think it was a poor performance.
I thought we were standing toe to toe with the champions elect and matching them at that stage.

robles mcgeady cleverley kone niasse lennon, that was the level of the squad he had to work with, if anyone thought we would be chasing top four with that go and see your GP.

Check out their wages bill too.

You said transfer fees AND wages. So you meant wages? Should have said that then. They just give Lovren 100k contract, ditto Lallana, Sturridge is their highest earner i think with Milner, they throw money at mediocrity like Moreno, Lucas, Matip etc etc. Just because they throw money around at mediocrity, shouldn't justify them finishing above us .....................because they pay more wages!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you say
This is football games not mathematics.

I honestly thought it was woeful from both sides mate, a really boring non event. It wasn't just us who were poor, I thought they looked utter tripe as well.

Just felt like an end of season game to me and one moment of class undone us and we never then looked arsed enough to have a good go back.

No harm done in the grand scheme of things, just felt very similar to West Ham away with the players knowing not much was riding on it.

Just my opinion though mate, I know some folk might say it was a good tactical battle for an hour.

If pressure is to be applied, it has to be on Moshiri and the board for the summer.

7th is not acceptable for me, but it is under the car crash circumstances which Koeman walked into.

I am not expecting miracles for next season, and generally think things are positively developing under Moshiri, but he has to oversee quite significant investment (by our standards, at least) in the summer.

We could do with at least another six signings, and Moshiri will probably have to personally intervene where required to ensure things get done, we could do with a few early signings.

We might have eeked out a higher league placing and got 6th with this squad but other than that and the disappointing cup runs I couldn't criticise Koeman for much at all.

We expect to be able to compete but you look at the squad and see how threadbare it is in some areas. Koeman will need another 18 months IMO to properly straighten things out provided he is supported adequately.

Gana marked Hazard out of the game btw.

Only for his free kick, poor keeping & defending you wouldnt have thought Hazard was even on the pitch.
Nothing wrong with the tactics with a limited squad yesterday.

He did have a good game but there was a massive hole in front of back four because of job he was asked to do. Not his fault.

Koeman got tactics without enough cover to allow Gana to play that role, we lost 3-0.

Hopefully improved squad for next year.
