Ronald Koeman discussion

If pressure is to be applied, it has to be on Moshiri and the board for the summer.

7th is not acceptable for me, but it is under the car crash circumstances which Koeman walked into.

I am not expecting miracles for next season, and generally think things are positively developing under Moshiri, but he has to oversee quite significant investment (by our standards, at least) in the summer.

We could do with at least another six signings, and Moshiri will probably have to personally intervene where required to ensure things get done, we could do with a few early signings.

We might have eeked out a higher league placing and got 6th with this squad but other than that and the disappointing cup runs I couldn't criticise Koeman for much at all.

We expect to be able to compete but you look at the squad and see how threadbare it is in some areas. Koeman will need another 18 months IMO to properly straighten things out provided he is supported adequately.

Gana marked Hazard out of the game btw.

Only for his free kick, poor keeping & defending you wouldnt have thought Hazard was even on the pitch.
Nothing wrong with the tactics with a limited squad yesterday.

Dafuq is this.

Gana's man marking worked like a treat. Pedro it's a screamer and the game changes completely.

People acting like we got a footballing lesson need to have a sip on reality

He did have a good game but there was a massive hole in front of back four because of job he was asked to do. Not his fault.

Koeman got tactics without enough cover to allow Gana to play that role, we lost 3-0.

Hopefully improved squad for next year.

You said transfer fees AND wages. So you meant wages? Should have said that then. They just give Lovren 100k contract, ditto Lallana, Sturridge is their highest earner i think with Milner, they throw money at mediocrity like Moreno, Lucas, Matip etc etc. Just because they throw money around at mediocrity, shouldn't justify them finishing above us .....................because they pay more wages!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you say

I did say "AND". You did not even read properly.

Fees and wages. It's not that hard to understand.

RS finish above Everton and may get CL. This is a good enough evidence. You argue Everton have a similar squad in terms of quality with the current top 3-6 and have no evidence to back it up.

Dont understand your logic here....upto the Pedro screamer and a terrible mess from a free kick the tactics were spot on.
Hazard never got a sniff and the centre backs took Costa out of the game.
Think you may have watched another game mate.

Because playing at the top is different genius.

You buy better players with more money.

You think RS, Man City, Man Utd and Arsenal' squads are no better than Everton that's why I call you delusional.

Eeerm, I didn't say say Man City, UTD and Arsenal squads are no better that ours. Their squads are very strong, but as a team, the way each of them have performed this season, they have massively under achieved, given the talent at their disposal. That's why I think we've missed a good opportunity this season. They've been poor, unfortunately, we've been poorer. But if you want to use the last 2 years under Martinez as a Barometre to measure success, that's you prerogative. I set my sights a little higher. That's not delusional. No one could have foreseen City, Arsenal and Utd being so poor this season. We've drawn v Swansea and Palace at home, beaten at Bournemouth, Burnley and Watford, drawn at Hull, Stoke and West Ham. I understand that you can't win them all but it's not delusional to think that we could/should be closer to the Top 4 than we are when you look at them fixtures.
Although, I will say that our squad is better than the RS!

Ok fair enough.

I think you don't really understand the word 'and'. Maybe you should have used the word 'or' then. Please can you quote me where I've said we have a similar squad in terms of quality with the current top 3-6. Please. I think our 1st 11 is a match for them, it shouldn't be, but this season, it is, for whatever reasons.

Depends how you look at it though surely?

I wouldn't say the tactics were spot on because I thought the game was dull as dishwater. I think they would have accepted a draw, but they had us penned back for long periods and lukaku was an isolated figure. As we had literally nothing to play for, and we were the home team with a good record, I would have preferred a more positive outlook.

Overall I think koemans done a decent job, but he's certainly not done anything to make him exempt from criticism and I think our recent performances against better sides have been a little too knife to a gunfight for my liking.

As I said up to the Pedro screamer there was nothing in it.
Cant criticize to tactics at all , once that went in we were up against it . They have a
mean defence and were allowed to sit back and hit us on the break.
The bench's tells you everything..they bring on Willian & Fabregas , we bring on Kone & Mirallas.
They have quality all over ,we are very limited at the moment.
So negating their 2 main threats Hazard & Costa he got it spot on .
A few minutes before if Ross releases earlier Rom is one on one with the keeper.
Pedro screamer changed everything.
Its not the tactics that were wrong its the glaringly obvious lack of quality in depth.
Lets hope that changes come summer.

No you can't read properly is it? Transfer fees and wages. Both.

It does not matter whether you use the exact wording. You said this.

When you see the 'quality' of the 4 teams below Chelsea and Spurs, can you really tell me they are that much better than us?

And this

https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/ronald-koeman-discussion.89131/reply?quote=5422671

We have the Leagues top scorer, outside the top 2, we have a very average 4 teams below them, and yet, we're finishing 7th. We have a good team, some top class players. ...the way the season has panned out, with Utd and Arsenal, and to a lesser degree, City being so poor. Have the RS really got a better team than us? I don't think so...

Yea you said 4 average teams below Chelsea and Spurs. RS, sitting at 3rd not better than Everton. You do not read the league table. There are 6 teams that are better than Everton this season.

The tactics to contain a threat were pretty good, and generally working until the screamer from Pedro but it left us with NADA in attack. It was a pretty poor hoof-fest. Hopefully we see less of this if we bring in more quality.

6/10 for the season taken on its own merit. 7.5/10 comparing it to what came before.
