Ronald Koeman discussion

7th & 7th; a fair start or as good as it gets
aye, that is the question.

'ked if I know either way, at the moment my 'swing-o-meter' has edged into The Dutch Moyes segment...next season will show us, well those of us that will allow ourselves to see, a better lie of the land

Yup, I think it was always going to be next season when we can truly judge him.

Not making excuses for him, but long term injuries to Coleman, McCarthy, Besic, and Bolasie, added to Gueye going off for a month, Schneids also missing quite a few since joining won't have helped his cause.

I like the fact he has been willing to give the youth a chance and never panicked, which also tells me he knows it is all about next season too.

His bedding in period is over, it's down to business now.

You would appoint a manager primarily based on whether they played/ or supported Everton rather than their experience or abilities? Why ?
Long term planning is the responsibility of the DoF , that is his main function. Managers should never be long term appointments, if they fail to meet targets dismiss them. Regardless of success they should be replaced at regular intervals to ensure the incoming manager retains the hunger to succeed and doesn't have to spend a season rebuilding a failed side.
Management of our football club should never be a sinecure, but a challenging role with strict targets that have to be met season to season.

Yeah, why build a long-term rapport with young players and fans over time, cos that never works out (Barcelona, Man Utd).

Don't get me wrong, I agree about avoiding complacency and targets are good. But only Chelsea have defied building from within logic consistently and had success - Man City have hardly excelled with their hideous outlay. Both squads will fail the second their dire spending and dire level of youth contribution ceases to continue.

Everton is an amazing club for generating players over years and I think manager's that come from within the system (often as ex players) are more in tune with who and what will work and how to motivate them- and it gives the manager himself time to grow. Bournemouth, Burnley, Stoke are all examples and of course Everton under Moyes, too.

Whether or not we have what is deemed to be a successful summer will be almost entirely down to Moshiri/board.

Based on where we are now, and with the added prospect of losing Barkley/Lukaku, Koeman can't be judged any more severely than this season if he goes into it handicapped.

No manager passes up the opportunity to bring in players they know will improve the squad. Koeman and Walsh take responsibility for the outcome once signed but this is the summer that hard cash has to be put on the table, and things running effectively with regard to securing signings.

Spot on that... Davies, Schneids, Gueye very promising. I'm still hopeful about McCarthy's consistency, but Besic seems prone and Bolasie's not my cup of tea, target should have been Antonio at West Ham who's British, too.

What he said
Unless the board keep their promises to back Koeman and invest heavily in the squad.
We were promised Marquee signings last summer and they never happened.
Moshiri has said if it happens again then heads will roll.
100 m plus any outgoing sales money is the minimum required.
Even with 100 m
GK 25 m
Keane 25 m
VVD /Koubailly or a CB of that ilk 50 m
That's the 100 m gone and no money spent on midfield or attacking players.
So I can see Koeman getting rid of 5/6 players to raise 60/70 million for more incomings.
And that's keeping Barclay and Lukaku

But if Koeman is not given the cash and promises that were made to him are not
kept then you can't blame him for a poor season next year

Watching Chelsea last night I'd say they do everything at a faster rate and more instinctively than we do. They get the ball under control and pass it off in a trice.

Can we try and do that please, Ronald?
